REX Engineered Flooring

Engineered flooring is a combination of a solid wood wear layer and a plywood base.

REX Engineered Flooring is custom run to order using our own solid lumber that is sawn from the same diverse extensive

top-quality lumber we use to manufacture our solid flooring.

Solid lumber is saw cut into veneers, not rotary cut like commodity products, and then is glued to a premium grade Baltic Birch plywood base layer. The use of saw cut veneers provides an identical appearance to solid wood flooring. Baltic Birch plywood is used for exceptional strength and dimensional stability. Engineered flooring that uses Baltic Birch plywood is less prone to warp, twist, and cupping than other flooring products. Our Baltic Birch plywood uses exterior grade / water resistant glue which adds additional durability to the flooring.

REX Engineered Flooring is Available in All Standard Domestic and Tropical Species.

Standard species include: Quarter-Sawn White Oak, Rift Sawn White Oak, Plain Sawn White Oak, Character Grade White Oak, Quarter-Sawn Red Oak, Rift Sawn Red Oak, Plain Sawn Red Oak, Plain Sawn Hard Maple, Plain Sawn Cherry, Plain Sawn Hickory and Plain Sawn Sapele.

Additionally, it is also available in virtually any species available in today’s marketplace.

From Narrow to Wide

All Standard and Custom Widths Are Available. REX Engineered Flooring is available in the same standard grades as our solid hardwood flooring: Rex Select Grade and Rex Character Grade. Engineered flooring is a combination of a solid wood wear layer and a plywood base.

Species Available: Quarter-Sawn White Oak, Rift Sawn White Oak, Plain Sawn White Oak, Character Grade White Oak, Quarter-Sawn Red Oak, Rift Sawn Red Oak, Plain Sawn Red Oak, Plain Sawn Hard Maple, Plain Sawn Cherry, and Plain Sawn Hickory. Additionally, it is also available in virtually any species or width available in today’s marketplace.

Thickness: Material is a full 3/4” thick. 5/8” thick material is also available. Widths: Material is available in in all standard widths, custom widths are also available. Lengths: 3’ to 12’ in length, which is heavy 6 to 10’, with up to 5% cutbacks to 30”.

Longer lengths available upon request and availability based on species. Unlike most engineered wood floors that have a maximum length of 84”, our length is only limited by the length of the wear layer, therefore we can manufacture custom flooring up to 16’ or longer if there is hardwood available.

Wear Layer: Saw cut veneers that finish at 4mm thick wear layer. Our engineered decorative layers are sawn from grade lumber and not rotary cut. This gives the floor an identical appearance to solid. We manufacture a 4mm wear layer prevents movement and provides optimal performance. We can manufacture custom wear layers from 3mm to 6mm. Thicker wear layers can negate the stability advantage of engineered flooring.

Plywood: 11 Ply Baltic Birch Plywood is used for 3/4” thick finish. A 9 Ply Baltic Birch Plywood is used for 5/8” thick finish. Baltic Birch is native to Northeastern Europe, the Baltics and Russia. It has traditionally been used by the Europeans for cabinet manufacturing. It is widely regarded for its strength and dimensional stability. It is unlike traditional plywood in that it is manufactured from solid layers of 1.5 mm solid birch. These 1.5 mm birch ply’s are positioned perpendicular to each other and laminated with exterior grade adhesives. This also gives the product a degree of water resistance. Baltic Birch has exceptional dimensional stability making it an ideal substrate for engineered flooring. Engineered Flooring that uses Baltic Birch plywood is less prone to warp, twist, and cupping common to solid and some engineered products. Our engineered flooring is milled flat and stays flat.

Glue Type: PUR Hot Melt Adhesive. All glue used in the plywood and wear layer interface is exterior grade / water resistant.

Clamping: Hot Press. Durability: With proper maintenance an engineered floor will last a lifetime. It is possible to re-sand an

engineered floor 2-3 times before it must be replaced. Additional Services:

Pre-Sanding to 120 grit, True Hand Scraping, Machine Scraping, Contour Sanding, Beveled, Contoured or Hand Scraped Edges, Wire Brushing, True Chamber Fuming, and Custom Pre-Finishing.
