Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)Is RGKA only for rural areas or will it cover urban areas as well?
RGKA covers all rural blocks of the country. The Ministry will shortly come out with the RGKA Urban scheme to cover all the urban areas in the country.
Will there be any coaching provided at these centers?
Yes. Government will be appointing 3 Sports Trainers at each of these facilities. These sports trainers will typically be selected from among physical training (PTE) teachers at local schools and will act both as coaches as well as custodians of the RGKA facilities. One of the Sports Trainers will also be responsible for providing self-defence training, especially to women.
Will sporting equipment be provided at RGKA facilities?
Sports equipment worth Rs.15 lakhs will be provided for each sport complex by the gov-ernment.
Can sport disciplines other than those listed as part of the scheme be played at RGKA facilities?
Yes. Under the RGKA scheme, states have the freedom to choose upto three local games within the overall limit of 16 sports disciplines.
Is there a provision for sporting talent to be identified under this scheme?
As part of the RGKA scheme, regular competi-tions will be held at the block, district, state, and national level to identify talent. Funds will be given by the government every year for the conduct of competitions as below:
Block level – Rs. 1 lakhDistrict level – Rs. 4 lakhState level – Rs. 2 lakhs for each district in the state. National level – Rs. 10 lakhs per sports discipline.
Similar amounts will also be provided for the conduct of special category games namely Women competition, Northeast area games, and Special area games. For each competi-tion, award money for the top three athletes / teams in each discipline has been allocated in the scheme.
