Churches and chapelsIS-Siiewi

In Siiewi we find several churches and chapels, some of them in the core of the village and some in the outskirts.

Rests of old parish church

This church was built around the 15th century, but hardly anything survived. In 1998 these ruins were classified as a Heritage site. In 2007 the church was restored.

Siiewi parish church

This church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. It was built between 1676 and 1693. It has a baroque style. The feast of St Nicholas is celebrated in the last week of June.

St Mark chapelThis chapel is dedicated to Saint Mark. It was demolished and rebuilt in 1608. This chapel was built by Francesco Mamo. This chapel is in Triq il-Kbira.

wejra chapelThis chapel is dedicated to Saint Mary. One can see the small chapel at the lower end of main village square. It was built in 1742 and funds were provided by Dominicans Fathers of Birgu. It`s last restoration was in 2005.

Annunciation chapelThis chapel was built in 1420. The earthquakes of 1693 and 1856 had damaged the chapel, after each earthquake people of Siiewi restored the chapel. There feast is on the 25th of March. This chapel is near the Laferla cross.
