El Dorado County is at the heart of California, on the west side of United States. It is located on the western slope (versante) of the mountain range (catena) known as Sierra Nevada. The area is characterized by hills, but travelling eastward (verso est), the elevations increases, from about 600 meters of Placerville to 3000 meters of most peaks.El Dorado County is 50 kilometers east of Sacramento, 65 west of Carson City, Nevada's State Capitol, 200 from San Francisco and 80 from Reno.Placerville is the center of the western slope of Sierra Nevada and is the seat of government for El Dorado County;  north of Placerville is the town of Coloma where gold was first discovered in California over 150 years ago and the mine is now a living museum; East of Placerville is the historic community of Camino; further east, the Sierras provides great places to camp, hike (fare escursioni), hunt, fish and ski. On our eastern border is Lake Tahoe;  there are also mountain peaks reaching over 3000 meters high. The city of South Lake Tahoe is the center of commerce on the eastern slope of the Sierras and attracts people from all over the world to its wonderful scenery, fishing, sailing, and snow skiing.
