Is there a correlation between blood pressure and lung capacity?

I believe that blood pressure and lung capacity both correlate with one another because your blood pressure is determined by how fast your heart is pumping your blood, and as the heart works with lungs than the two should be similar.

The amount of air that you move in and out of your lungs while breathing normally is called tidal volume. This amount of air provides enough oxygen for a person who is resting. It is possible to inhale and exhale more forcefully - the maximum amount of air moved in and out of the lungs is called the vital capacity. Blood pressure is a measurement of the force applied to the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood through the body. The pressure is determined by the force and amount of blood pumped, and the size and flexibility of the arteries. Because the lungs pump air to the lungs that takes the air and oxygenates the blood.

Arrange for subjects to be put into pairings. At least three testing pairs are needed. One to be the subject, one to take measurements for the subject.

Following the grouping into pairings, each person will wait until they are at their resting BP rate, recording that BP rate, and once there, they will blow a balloon as large as they can with three blows. Afterward, the size of the balloons will be recorded.

Then the subjects will run in place for one hundred and twenty seconds, before repeating the process with the balloons and having their BP recorded. And while the sizes are recorded, we allow subjects to rest for sixty seconds.

The BP rate is again recorded before the subjects blow up the balloons one final time and have the sizes measured.

The results are compared to draw a conclusions.

For the most part as the systolic blood pressure raised, lung capacity increased.

For the diastolic pressure, there was no trend, thus making it meaningless.

There was a trend in the majority of the Female Subjects that as they blew the balloon in each trial, the size of the balloon continues to increase.

This trend however was not present in the Male Subjects’ trial.

If I was to do this project again I would try to find other things to compare to lung capacity such as gender, age, and maybe even other factors like athletes and singers.

I would also try and organize the process better to further prevent room for error and mistake.

Systolic pressure is determined by how fast your beats, while diastolic represents how slow. So in conclusion, my hypothesis was partially right as I claimed there would be correlation with how fast the heart beats, thus making the diastolic more so irrelevant.

But from it I learned the relaxing of the heart has no connection to a person's lung capacity.
