eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name,
to take away our reproach.

name in vain”?
(Exo 20:7) Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD
thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his

Isaiah 4
I. The DESIRE for his name
(Isa 4:1) And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will
eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy
name, to take away our reproach.
A.The PRETENDING to have his name
(2Ch 7:14) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray,
and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their
sin, and will heal their land.
(Act 11:26) … And the disciples were called Christians first in
Antioch.
(2Ti 2:19) Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure,
having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart
from iniquity.(Jas 4:4) Ye adulterers and
adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever
therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
(Mat 7:21) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall
enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my
Father which is in heaven.
(Mat 7:22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils?
and in thy name done many wonderful works?
A.The PRETENDING to have his name
B.What it means to PROFANE his name
(Mal 1:11-12) For from the rising of the sun even unto the going
down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place
incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen,
saith the LORD of hosts. But ye have profaned it…
(Lev 22:31-32) Therefore shall ye keep my commandments, and do
them: I am the LORD. Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will
be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow
you,
(Php 1:27) Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast
in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

and he that believeth on me shall never

God
(1Co 5:8) Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old
leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and
wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
(Mat 16:11) How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the
leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
(Mat 16:12) Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of
bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the
Sadducees.
(Isa 29:13) Wherefore the Lord said,
Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and
with their lips do honour me, but have
removed their heart far from me, and
their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

III. The DEFILEMENT of our own apparel
(Isa 4:1) And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will
eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name,
to take away our reproach.
A.Our apparel doesn’t have the PURITY needed
(Isa 61:10) I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the
garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of
righteousness…
(Job 29:14) I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a
robe and a diadem.
(Rev 19:8) And to her was granted that she should be
arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the
righteousness of saints.
A.Our apparel doesn’t have the PURITY needed
B.Our apparel doesn’t have the PROPER covering
(Gen 3:7) And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
(Rev 16:15) Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and
keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
(1Jn 2:28-29) And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall
appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his
coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that
doeth righteousness is born of him.
(Rev 3:17) Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and
have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable,
and poor, and blind, and naked:
(Jer 6:15) Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time
that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
A.Our apparel doesn’t have the PURITY needed
B.Our apparel doesn’t have the PROPER covering
C.His apparel is what we are to PUT on!
(Php 3:9) And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness
which is of God by faith:
(Rom 13:14) But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for
the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
(Eph 4:24) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
(Eph 4:24) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is
created in righteousness and true holiness.
(Col 3:9-10) Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge
after the image of him that created him:
