Topic – The Evolution of Purpose:From Asking “Why” to Answering “How”ChristineArena,Edelman+SocialPurposeSunday, March 23rd, 3:30 p.m.

Today, many of the world’s most successful corporations are transforming how they operate. With an eye on both operational excellence and societal performance, these transformative businesses are shaping customer engagement and public policy in a

complex global environment. At the same time, people want to be seen as more than just “consumers”; they want to engage with brands and corporations to address social issues. To be successful today, organizations mustbedrivenbypurposeasmuchasbyprofit.Inthisthought-provokingreviewofthelatesttrends,Chris-tine Arena will challenge us to consider how market forces, social technologies and environmental realities converge to present new rules for stakeholder engagement and offer sensible strategies for taking positive business action.

Leaders around the world have relied on Ken Blanchard’s insight, wisdom, and prac-tical advice for years. In this dynamic session you will hear Ken describe how to lead your people to greatness by focusing on four key elements: setting your sights on the right vision, treating your customers right, treating your people right, and having the

right kind of leadership. You’ll learn how to go beyond the short term and zero in on the right target, deliver legendary customer service, empower your people, and ground your leadership in humility to focus on the greater good.

ISA’s 2014 Thought Leader Award goes to the extraordinary team of Jack Zenger and Joe Folkman.

Their groundbreaking research resulted in the 2001 release of The Ex-traordinary Leader: Turning Good Managers into Great Leaders. After the success of their book, Jack and Joe decided they could help organizations even further by creating leadership training and development programs that made use of their unique research.

Initially, Jack and Joe developed an unexpected partnership. Jack has spent more than 50 years working in human resources for some of the largest companies in the world. Conversely, Joe is a statistically inclined organizational psychologist who has focused his career on building statistical models that interpret human behavior. Together, they developed a training and development company that was grounded in data and backed by practical ideas. While the partnership wasn’t immediately obvious, it has proven to be successful with companies around the world.

Their more recent collaborations include: How to Be Exceptional: Drive Leadership Success by Magnifying Your Strengths; The Inspiring Leader: Unlocking the Secrets of How Extraordinary Leaders Motivate; and The Extraordinary Coach: How the Best Leaders Help Others Grow. Their research and resulting publications are all part of their ongoing effort to help leaders and organizations become extraordinary.
