The NELT-B hardware architecture consists of the following functional blocks:
• The IWF block is responsible for:• the data path for the Ethernet subscriber interfaces requiring similar features as for
DSL subscriber interfaces• the control path for the Ethernet subscriber traffic• the management of the LT board.
• The switch block is for the data switch between the NT board and the subscriber lines.
• The power block provides all the power for the NELT-B board.
1.6 External Interfaces
The NELT-B has the following interfaces:
• Ethernet interfaces• SerDes interfaces• PSU interface
1.6.1 Ethernet InterfacesThe NELT-B can be configured to support the following SPFs:
• Standard FE SFP (up to 18 channels)• Standard GE SFP (up to 18 channels)• Compact FE CSFP (2 channels per cage, up to 36 channels)• Compact GE CSFP (2 channels per cage, up to 36 channels)
1.6.2 SerDes InterfacesThe NELT-B has two 10G SerDes interfaces.
The SerDes interface can auto-negotiate to 1GE, 2.5 GE and 10GE. One interface connects to NT A and the other interface connects to NT B.
Those two interfaces work in active/standby mode or in active/active (load-sharing) mode and line up with the NT status. The actual behavior depends on the NT board type, see Table 2.
NELT-B Ethernet Line Termination Unit version B
Issue: 06 3FE 62543 AAAA TQZZA 9
Table 2 NELT-B Behavior in function of the NT Board
Each of the interfaces can be a NNI (Network-to-Network Interface), a UNI (User-to-Network Interface) or a HC-UNI (High Capacity UNI) port. See Figure 9 for the logical view of the NELT-B architecture while Table 3 lists the specifics for each of the interface types
Figure 9 NELT-B Architecture
Table 3 Interface types and their characteristics
So the backplane capacity is dependent on the NT type and the interface type, i.e f(NT, interface) and consequently, the following backplane capacity is supported by the NELT-B:
NT Board Type Behavior Description
NANT-A Active/Standby (A/S) A single NT-LT link is active
NANT-D
NANT-E
FANT-F
Active/Active (A/A) or load-sharing
Both NT-LT links are simultaneously active allowing to double the capacity

Table 4 NELT-B Backplane Capacity
Notes(1) A restriction exists when considering UNI interfaces, i.e. for all the UNI interfaces taken together, the aggregate
capacity is limited to 2.5G by the IWF even if carried over a backplane interface with a higher rate. If the backplane is smaller (NANT-A), the rate is obviously limited to 1G.
Example with two NANT-E boards:
• For 36 NNI ports, the backplane capacity is 20G• For 36 UNI ports, the capacity for the aggregate is 2.5G (carried over a 20G
backplane)• For 36 ports mix of NNI and UNI: capacity is 20G for the NNI and HC-UNI ports
but maximum 2.5G for the UNI ports
1.6.3 PSU InterfaceThis is the Power Supply interface.
