President’s Message
Dear Fellow Members,
I wish you a very
happy New Year. And,
to all our Chinese
colleagues I wish a
very happy year of the
Red Monkey.
I am grateful to all of
you who took time out
to share views with me and offer
suggestions on taking forward our mission
of ‘Guiding burn care in LMICs’. There has
been an awakening to this cause which has
strengthened our resolve to continue
pursuing this to achieve,’ One World, One
Standard of Care’.
We are blessed to be living in this era of
easy communication where knowledge can
be shared instantly. This pooling of
knowledge and experience is close to
getting distilled as ‘ISBI Guidelines for
Burn Care’ which will be published in our

‘BURNS’ Journal just before we gather for
our ‘Kumbh Mela’ at Miami. What we had
conceived to be a catalogue of good
practices in burn care for LMICs has
transformed into a ‘mini opus’ for practicing
burn care in any part of the world. This has
been through much dialogue and interaction
with a large group of international advisors,
besides the efforts put in by the authors.
Our Program Chair, Prof. Folke Sjoberg, has
put in tremendous efforts to custom design
a lively scientific fare for you all at Miami
and I hope to see you in large numbers.
ISBI 2016 Congress promises to surpass all
records at attendance and I am sure you
have planned to be there.
Best wishes.

Rehabilitation Committee
The ISBI Burn Rehab Committee (BRC) have made progress as follows:
1. Collation of the descriptive statistics of the worldwide burn rehabilitation
education and practices survey.
2. Subsequent to this a manuscript was drafted and circulated to the author group.
Feedback was provided and is now in revision within the BRC members. We hope
to have the paper submitted by mid-year 2016.
3. We have a large set of resources compiled to support education and training in
burn units / teams in low resource environments. We hope to be able to release
these in the next few months to support the Clinical Practice Guidelines which are
to be published in Burns.
4. We hope to progress the Burn Outreach and Rehabilitation Network (BORN) for
broader access prior to the congress in Miami. Individual burn clinicians continue
to visit low resource environments around the globe but all based on personal
contacts and introductions. The idea of the BORN is to expand these teaching and
support networks and provide easier access for clinicians in these environments
to more experienced burn rehabilitation specialists and therapists to propagate
the messages of the ISBI Clinical Practice Guidelines.
