WHO IS THIS FOR?Early Years and Key Stage 1 staff

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?‘The earlier dyslexic difficulties are identified the better the chances of putting children on the road to success’. (The Rose Review, 2009 p.42)

Historically, teachers have been reluctant to identify dyslexic difficulties until a child has reached the age of 7 or 8. Unfortunately, by this time children have fallen well behind their peers and can feel frustrated by their difficulties. In reality, there are much earlier warning signs if only staff knew what they were looking for.

The Early Identification of Dyslexia training helps Early Years and KS1 staff understand more about dyslexia in the early childhood, identify those children who may be at risk and how to support their learning.

ALSO CONSIDER...• Phonological Awareness Training

• SENCo consultation around particular pupils

DURATION3 hours

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN• A greater awareness of how to identify the risk of dyslexia in very young children

WHO IS THIS FOR?Teaching Assistants

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?Do you have new members of staff who will be listening to children read on a regular basis? Do your existing staff know how to enhance 1:1 reading sessions and develop effective reading strategies? Do they know how to motivate the reluctant reader? DURATION2 x 3 hours sessions

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN• Pupils will become more confident readers

COST: 4 UNITS Effective 1:1 Reading Sessions

WHO IS THIS FOR?Teachers (SENCo or Literacy Co-ordinator) & Teaching Assistants working with pupils in Year 1 and above

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?PLR is a personalised, wave 3 intervention. It is a systematic, progressive, small-steps, multisensory approach to teaching reading, based on thorough assessment for learning.

PLR has a proven track record in terms of impact and is included in the government publication ‘What works for pupils with literacy difficulties?’

The PLR approach suits most struggling readers, helping them engage with the reading process and begin to make significant progress. PLR also impacts on confidence, self-esteem, and writing skills. PLR provides a means of tracking small-steps progress.

PRE-REQUISITES• Schools will need to send a Teacher and a Teaching Assistant who will

train together. Delegates should attend both days
