Grand Knight’s Report - William Keenan

The Pitfalls of Replacing Coverage You know the old saying, “the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence,” but we all know that it rarely is. The same holds true when it comes to replacing your existing Knights of Columbus life insurance with coverage offered by another company. Perceptions are deceiving. A move to the “greener” grass on the other side of the fence might seem like a good one, but it can leave you with less green in your wallet — in some cases, a lot less. That’s why it pays to remember another old adage, “Read the fine print.”

There are many reasons to keep your existing coverage in force, whether that coverage is with the Knights of Columbus or with another company. I’ll focus on the potential pitfalls of replacing coverage here — pitfalls that an agent trying to

October has been a slow month for me. It started off at St. Ursula on October 8 & 9th. The results were 2 names and phone numbers which I am still working on, St. Clare's weekend is now rescheduled for December 10 & 11th. On October 22 at St. Isaac Jogues, I was able to get 2 names and phone numbers at the Men's Fellowship. On October 22 and 23 at St. Ursula's Ministry Fair with the help of some brothers, I was able to get 12 names and phone numbers. I thank everyone who helped me. Upcoming Membership Weekends: November 5 & 6 - St. Isaac Jogues November 19 & 20 - St. Thomas More December 10 & 11 - St. Clare Do not forget our next council meeting will be a 1st Degree, November 7. Victor Bisignani, Chuma Odiegwu and Joseph Cascio are now rescheduled to take their 2nd Degree on November 16 at Patapsco Council, Anthony D"Agostino is scheduled to take his 3rd Degree at St. Joan of Arc Church in Aberdeen on November 4. With everyone's help star council is achievable. Always remember to carry with you the form 100 or the 921A card.

Program Director’s Report Steve Radsminski 410–663-6107

I am pleased to announce that new 3rd Degree Knight Chris Seymore has stepped up, and will become our new Culture of Life

Director. He volunteered for this position in early October, and has already come up with some new ideas. I don’t want to steal

Chris’ thunder, but one project will involve the council collecting used clothing, books, etc. instead of donating to Goodwill. The

council will raise money for our Culture of Life projects. And I know that Chris has other ideas. Please support Chris and his

endeavors. Be sure to contact him with your ideas, he is listed in the Council Directory.

On Monday, October 17, 2016, Council officers and directors attended a seminar about the duties of the various offices. I am

pleased to say that under the leadership of our Worthy Grand Knight, Will Keenan, our council does not have any vacancies.

Our instructor was very pleased in that he mentioned that some councils have difficulty having a full slate of directors.

On Sunday Oct 2nd, St. Ursula had their first Blessing of the Animals and Ice Cream Social. It was well attended and there was even a chicken and a goat present. Fr. Steve’s dog Seamus seemed to enjoy himself and “translated” for Father. The ice cream was provided by the Fathers Club and was served by the Knights. Those Knights in attendance were: Steve Radziminski, Roy Gary, Andrew Colbourne, Mike Quinn, GK William Keenan, and PGKs Ray Cilento, Michael Colbourne, and Rick Callender.

We have come to a conclusion of another successful Incentive Car Raffle event. Thanks goes out to the entire council for the

participation. Thanks also goes to Bob Davidson Ford for displaying a 2017 Ford Mustang at the Parkville Fair in September.

The Council sold 1,324 tickets, and the net profit to the Council was $465.16.

Christmas will be here before we know it, and Bob Pahr III is putting together another wonderful Council Christmas Party. The

party will be held on Saturday, December 17 2016 from 6:00 – 10:00 PM in the council hall. Bob is putting the final touches on

the menu and planned activities, and he assures us that the cost will be very reasonable. What better way to celebrate the

anniversary of our Lord’s birth than with your brother knights and their families.

Now is the time to start planning if you are interested in attending the State Convention in May in Ocean City. Details and early

registration will be coming out soon.

In preparation for Election Day, the Knights of Columbus is calling its mem-

bers and all the faithful to join together in a novena to the Holy Trinity

through the maternal intercession of the Immaculate Conception, patron-

ess of the United States.

Join your brother Knights around the nation for this novena, beginning on

Sunday, Oct. 30, and concluding on Monday, Nov. 7. The prayer for the

convince you that the grass actually is greener might neglect to mention.

First, all life insurance contracts contain a contestability period, which allows the insurer to contest claims made for a period — typically two years — after the contract is issued. Chances are this is no longer an issue with your current coverage.

Second, it’s unlikely that you can obtain the same amount of coverage, for the same premium, that you were able to obtain with your existing contract. The two factors that determine how much you’ll need to pay for life insurance coverage are age and health. Certainly, you’re older now than you were when you took out your current coverage. There’s no way around that. And you have to ask yourself, has your health changed during that time? Is your blood pressure the same? Your cholesterol? Have you gained weight? All these factors can affect the amount of coverage you’ll get for your premium dollar.

If someone encourages you to replace — or worse, drop — your existing coverage, please call me. I’ll show you how your existing coverage is working for you and why replacement is rarely in your best interest.
