Introduction
The International School of Kuala Lumpur is a non-profit,
parent-governed international school located in Malaysia’s
capital city, Kuala Lumpur. Founded in 1965, ISKL now has an
enrolment of approximately 1350 students, representing 52
different nationalities. ISKL offers a comprehensive educational
program that includes 3-year old program through Grade 12. The
Elementary School curriculum provides students with a strong
foundation in language arts, mathematics, social studies and a
hands-on, inquiry based-science program. English/language,
speech therapy and learning resources support are provided for
students with special needs. Specialists provide instruction in
art, music, physical education, computer library science, Chinese
and Spanish.
ISKL is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools
and Colleges. The School’s present accreditation by the Western
Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) expires in 2017
and the Board of ISKL has approved funding of joint
accreditation by the Council of International Schools and
WASC. Much of the preparatory work in evaluating ISKL’s
readiness for this new accreditation will be undertaken within the
community during 2016 - 2017.

Facilities and Curriculum
ISKL is located on two campuses, approximately ten kilometers apart, in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur. The
Ampang Campus houses the Middle School (Grades 6-8) and the High School (Grades 9-12). The Melawati
Campus hosts the Elementary School (Early Childhood Center through Grade 5) and provides education for
children from Prep Reception through Grade 5. Early childhood classes for 3 and 4 year olds (Prep Reception
and Junior) are half-day programs. Parents may opt for a full day program in Prep Junior. In Prep Senior
(Kindergarten) through Grade 5 students attend a full-day program.

ISKL has a highly experienced faculty, three quarters of whom hold advanced degrees. There is also support
for students with mild to moderate learning differences and students who are in the process of mastering the
English language.
The Elementary School Principal’s Position
The Elementary School Principal has overall responsibility for the planning and day-to-day administration of
the educational and co-curricular program in the Elementary School. Reporting to the Head of School and
supported by an Assistant Principal who also serves as Director of Activities, s/he will provide leadership to
ensure an excellent, well-managed educational program. S/he will achieve this through routine management
of the school in accordance with the policies and directions set by the Board of Directors and Head of School.
Primary responsibilities include: long term and short range curricular assessment and planning, teacher
supervision and evaluation, student care and discipline, communication with the school community and
budgeting and facilities management.

Professional Qualifications and Qualities Sought
Qualities and attributes of the successful candidate include:
● An advanced degree in education,
● Excellent proven leadership and administration skills gained in an educational environment,
● Outstanding ability to develop and implement a clear vision for the continuous improvement of the
Elementary Program, motivating, inspiring and challenging students, faculty, staff and the parent
community,
● Experience and knowledge of recent research in education particularly in instructional leadership in
the core curriculum: language arts, math, science and social studies.
● Strong team-building skills with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that will enhance
the collaboration and partnership between faculty, staff, parents and the wider ISKL community,
● Cross cultural openness and understanding, and
● An ability to set high standards of academic excellence and establish a constructive and dynamic work
ethic among faculty.
Compensation Package
The initial contract will be two years with an option to extend. The contract is renewable at the discretion of
the Head of School. Salary and benefits for this post are competitive and will be commensurate with the
responsibilities of this prestigious position.
