All FIVE Mondays matter in May - here’s some suggested ways to make them count!

May 2: It’s the seemingly little things that really count - today all you have to do is smile at everyone you see, and you will be amazed at the rewards to them and you!

May 9: This is considerably harder. If you smoke, try to quit. Just start with this Monday. Do it for yourself and all who love you. Everyone is asked to pray for those who are trying to quit.

May 16: If you are thinking about getting a pet, adopt one or contribute your time and money to a local animal shelter. They need you. Always spay and neuter your pets!

May 23: Investigate taking the latest CPR class. You could save a life of the one you love most.

May 30: Today is a holiday. You matter. Do what makes you happy!

Kairos Is Kairos Is MoreMore Than a Cookie Than a Cookie

Can you imagine not having had a homemade cookie for more than five years? Many of the Men in White at McConnell Unit haven’t had cookies for much

longer than that, and IITS members provided 85 dozen cookies for Kairos #31! The Men in White are always amazed that you care enough to take the time to make cookies and to pray for them. Donation of your time and prayers is more of a blessing than you can ever know. We, as well as the Men in White of Kairos #31, sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

April 11, 2011

Dear Island in the Son United Methodist Church,

On behalf of Wesley Community Center’s Board of Directors and Staff, I would like to thank you for sponsoring our annual banquet celebration held Thursday, March 24, 2011.

Your support will enable us to continue the programs and services we began in 1942 that have impacted the lives of homeless, CPS, and low-income children and families and uplifted and empowered those in need.

Our mission is for children and their families to experience abundant life because we have dared to care for them passionately and provide for them faithfully.

One of the greatest blessings God can give us is the gift of a friend who cares - thank you for being that someone.

Sincerely, MaLinda Conway Faughn, Executive Director

Dear Friends in Christ,

I call you “friends” for that is what you are to Dick and to me. This will be my last article for Beach Treasures and I find it difficult to put into words what each of you has meant to me over these past four years. You have shared the birth of our youngest grandchild, the difficult health issues facing my mother and grandmother and just general stuff of life that happens. In every instance I have felt your support, encouragement, love and God's grace in abundance. For that I thank God daily. You have helped me grow in too many ways to mention as I have served as your pastor, and I have loved every minute of it.

Together we have accomplished great things and truly put Island in the Son on the map - not only in the Corpus Christi District - but also on the Island. Public awareness has grown and program ministries have increased. We have lost some beloved members and gained some new dear friends. All of this is because of your love for Island in the Son UMC and your confidence in the love and grace of God.

I once heard it said that the only constant in life is change, and the time for change has once again come to us. Change can be difficult and create anxiety in those whose faith is not in God's promises. Without change nothing new ever comes into being. Without the death of creation in winter, there can be no beauty in spring. And without the death of Christ there could be no Easter. We are an Easter people. A people of hope. A people of joy and celebration. So rejoice in the new life that is to be yours under the leadership of your new pastor, Rev. Ken Houston, and continue the good work God has begun in you for the glory of God's Kingdom.

Know that you are and will be in my prayers and that I love you. Via Con Dios! Go with God!
