Two Days Walked up Partridge Shooting in Northern France

This is over a weekend at the end of September 2016, dates to be confirmed for two guns. This includes transport from UK to France via Eurotunnel. If you want to bring a separate vehicle then that is at your expense. Accommodation, breakfast and lunch is included. We depart on a Friday afternoon, returning either late Sunday or early Monday morning. We will be the guests of Eric Potdevin, Cuincy, near Lille. Shooting will take place within the Pas de Calais and Flanders area. We meet at 9.00 at the local tabac for fortification. There could be as many as 40 guns shooting over the commune, an area of about 1,000 ha. Contrary to British expectations, it is highly organised and you will see a lot of game, particularly large coveys of grey partridge, red legs, pheasants and great numbers of hares. They do not shoot any-thing that moves but shooting can be a little colourful in comparison with the UK. This is not a numbers game as in the UK. One might shoot up to a dozen partridge each, a few pheasants and some hares. The good guns “make their birds”. Many British guns feel uncomfortable shooting hares but they are in such numbers that it might be rude not to. British discomfort will be further increased by being expected to carry your hares and shoot at the same time! Hares are meticulously numbered and ac-counted for. Game is generally shot as one walks through crops of sugar beet, stubble and potatoes, though you may find yourself walking towards 20 guns a few hundred metres away who drive game to you. It is then a question of who shoots first. Accidents are surprisingly rare. There are British cemeteries everywhere. Lunch, as you would expect, is excellent and throughout the day there is a great ambiance. You will be shooting over battlefields from the Ist World War. Keep a sharp eye on the ground and souve-nirs of spent 303 cases and bullets abound.
