The origin of ISOBUS

In the eighties Kverneland GroupMechatronics applied for a patent on ISOBUS,a protocol for data communication betweentractors and agricultural equipment.

The company released the patent in 2001,whereupon ISOBUS grew to become theinternational standard. Any farmer purchasingagricultural machinery equipped withelectronics and an ISOBUS networkingprovision, is now on a “Plug& Play” level withall systems meeting that standard.

What is ISOBUS?

In 2001, farm machinery manufacturersagreed to implement a common standard forcommunication interfaces on tractors,implements and farm management systems.This common communication standard willenable products from different manufacturers,to easily communicate with one another andeliminate the need for separate controls,terminals and displays.

The common communication standard iscalled ISO 11783 and is commonly referred toas ISOBUS.

Why ISOBUS?

The goal of a common standard is toallow single point control of allimplements. All data collection from yourmachine(s) is centralized and can beeasily transferred to your terminal (e.g.IsoMatch Tellus).

Tractors will ultimately have just oneterminal instead of multiple devices tocontrol sprayers, spreaders and otherimplements.
