Not just orange or blue…..Most of them are
equipped with ISOBUS
27th Members’ Meeting of the Club of BolognaHannover, November 12-13, 2017
Early 2000s:• ISO-11783 commonly named ISOBUS• ISOBUS started slowly in 2001• Since 2005 rapid growth in ISOBUS
applications• Plugfests for testing, and DLG tests
• Many companies involved worldwide• Different interpretations of the standard (the
standard is extensive!)• Incompatibility issues Bad start
Need for structured Conformance Testing
ISOBUS market introduction

Data Exchange - FMIS
• Data exchange is standardized in ISO11783, Parts 10 & 11 • Currently data is transported by USB stick
– No longer adequate and useful
• Direct wireless communication of task data is necessary• AEF is developing a new data transmission, called EFDI
– EFDI stands for Extended FMIS Data Interface• It replaces the function of the USB stick in the Machine / FMIS chain
– Communication channels could be• Mobile Communications• Bluetooth• Wireless LAN• ….
27th Members’ Meeting of the Club of BolognaHannover, November 12-13, 2017
High Speed ISOBUS• Existing ISOBUS is CAN based
– Speed and bandwidth are at the limit
• Need for increasing bandwidth on the Bus, to ease and speed up data exchange– Ethernet technology in the scope
• This will lead to new possibilities;– The expansion of diagnostics – The support of electric drives– M2M communications– Connection of real-time video systems
27th Members’ Meeting of the Club of BolognaHannover, November 12-13, 2017
Radio based communicationChallenges:• Machines operate in rural areas with low population
density• Low bandwidth and bad cellular coverage• 90% of the world population today is connected via cell
phone• Only 30% of the landscape is covered by cellular radio
and even less with 3G
General demand for standardization of wireless direct M2M communication

AEF and ISO
• ISO:– The International Standardization body– Well established process: Authoring, review and
balloting process– International reach and relevance– International Publication of Standards
• AEF:– Standards adoption and implementation guidelines– Fund prototyping and test development– Prepare guidelines for standardization– Direct and prioritize standards development effort

Conclusion
• Customers expect seamless connectivity– Between Tractors and Implements;– Between Data Management and equipment
• Industry cooperation is a must• Industry Standards needed for communication
and data exchange• AEF facilitates the practical implementation and
cooperation for this• AEF facilitates cooperation with other Industry
bodies and organizations
