Puthoff said the largest crowdtends to gather at the upper com-mons plaza area and is standing-room-only for the fireworks. Butthe lower commons lawns pro-vide ample space for families tosprawl out on the grass and enjoythe vibrant display while reclin-ing on their blankets.
The 10 p.m. show should last20-25 minutes.
“Truly, it has the best seating,”she said.
In addition to the main fire-works event, dozens of vendors
will offer food and goodies, likeice cream, elephant ears, burgers,hot dogs, kettle corn, Thai food,barbecue and smoothies. Thestage on the plaza will featurelive music from The Pop Offs,from 6-8 p.m., and DanceFactory, from 8-10:15 p.m.

Eastlake’srecipient,Varsity DanceTeam CaptainKatie Teman,earned a 3.95grade pointaverage while
involved in community serviceprojects such as Eastlake’sInvisible Children. Teman is alsoa 2007 recipient of a SAMMI
award for hercommunityservice.
Skyline’sOliviaVerhagen willuse her schol-arship towardearning adegree in nurs-ing at CaseWestern
Reserve University in Cleveland. As a part of her passion to
help people in need, Verhagenvolunteered to spend 48 hoursliving in a box on the streets ofSeattle to see life from the per-spective of the homeless.
AspenEdwards ofEastsideCatholic hasdevoted about350 hours ofcommunityservice as aleader inYoung LifeCapernaum (afaith-basedorganization
for children and young adultswith mental and physical disabili-ties).
Edwards will pursue a degreein special education at GonzagaUniversity in Spokane.
Each spring, the Rotary Clubof Sammamish awards collegescholarships to senior high schoolstudents, one to eachSammamish high school.
Rotary focuses on communityservice and leadership in schooland community activities, char-acter and integrity and academicexcellence.
Each Rotary scholarship recipi-ent will receive up to $5,000toward their college education.
McTeacher Night
raises $2,300 for
patient at Children’s
Hospital
Teachers and staff at McAuliffeElementary School raised nearly$2,300 for a patient at SeattleChildren’s Hospital. At itsMcTeacher Night, June 1 at theSammamish McDonald’s, theschool staff members spent threehours raising support for the hos-pital’s Sparrow program. In all,McAuliffe students and familiesraised about $3,000 for Landon,their sponsored “Sparrow.”
At McTeacher night,McDonald’s donates 20 percentof all proceeds from sales — 100percent of cookie sales — duringthe three hours.
The cause received $400 indonations and brought in $860from cookie sales and another$805 from food sales. McDonald’sthen chipped in an additional 10percent.
The school and McDonald’spresented a check to Landon’sfamily at a June 22 school assem-bly, McAuliffe staff said.
