What is Ergonomics? Ergonomics is about designing the workplace and workplace equipment so that it optimizes range of move-ment and doesn’t place strain on the worker through repetition of movements. Strain causes damage, fatigue and contributes to the employee not being able to perform properly.
What’s involved in an assessment? Trained observation of even the most seemingly minor details from how a chair’s positioned relative to a computer, to lighting conditions and even clutter around the workplace. Basically it looks at the person and their working environment, considering their posture and individual limitations.
The aim of the assessment? The aim is to recognize potential risk factors for the individual using the workstation and provide them with strategies to maximize their ergonomic workstation and minimize risk of injury. In this way there is improvement in productivity, quality, safety and worker comfort. Improved performance at work will result in higher worker satisfaction and higher profitability for your company. Following an ergonomic assessment there’s usually recommendations made to the employee about their posture and their workstation. The employer’s notified if there’s requirement for any pieces of equipment.

Columbanus is pleased to present the “Effective Presentation Skills” Workshop on the 15th April 2010. The Workshop will be Presented by Mar-tin Blignaut, from W Consulting, Johannes-burg. This Workshop will deal with the practi-cal aspects of preparing an effective presenta-tion. We will then put these ideas into practice and each Participant will be filmed delivering their Presentation. We will play back the Pres-entation and find ways to “brush up” on each Participants Presentation Skills. Due to the in-teractive nature of this Workshop (incorporating filming Presentations and Play-Back), we will limit the Workshop to 15 people. You may have been to Presentations where the Presenter just reads from the slides, and you may struggle to stay awake in many Presenta-tions. We guarantee that Participants will not fall asleep in Martin´s Presentation.
