Little Harriers Big Barnado’s Toddle

Little Harriers children took to the racetrack, for their annual parent and staffBBQ at the Nursery, to raise money forthe children’s charity, Barnado’s. The daywas a huge success with over 100 parentsand children enjoying the sunshine.

Children from Little Harriers weresponsored to toddle half a mile withtheir family and friends. All age groupsparticipated in the event with babiescrawling the course, through to pre-schoolmembers who ran it, proving that you’renever too young to make a difference!

At the end of the toddle all childrenreceived a medal and a certificatefor their effort and everyone enjoyeda BBQ and summer drinks in the newlyreconstructed garden.

APERSONALVIEW

“It has been a wonderful day and itis such a privilege to be able to helpother children within our community,by donating money to Barnado’s,” saidLucy Verbrugge, Little Harriers’ Proprietor. The nursery staff and children raisedover £600 for Barnado’s and are alreadyplanning next year’s event!

Next Generation

As most of our tenants will be aware, our Chief Executive, Jim McAllister, became a grandfather in July whenhis eldest son, David, and his fiancée,Nicky, produced the first of a newgeneration of the family with the birthof their daughter, Isobel Anita McAllister,at The Royal Surrey on 24 July.

Cartoon CapersGwen Duke has kindly donated a seriesof cartoon 'doodles' to Dunsfold Park.Drawn in the late 1940s by a BAEemployee, the drawings depicta humorous insight into life on theaerodrome. Eight of these delightfuldrawings, given to Neville Duke duringhis time at Dunsfold, are now on displayin the Estate Office boardroom.

Despite a rainy start to Wings &Wheels the sun shone through fora spectacular day which wasenjoyed by some 20,000spectators.

I’m delighted to report that so far wehave received nothing but positivefeedback over this year’s improved trafficplan and unrivalled air and motoringdemonstrations.

We have now firmly established ourselvesas one of the must see airshows on theevents calendar. If you were unluckyenough to miss it, you can catch-up onthe day’s events through our review, andpictures of the show further on in thenewsletter.

As we leave summer behind, autumnheralds a new phase in the master-planning process for Dunsfold Park.Waverley Borough Council’s decision toturn down our application is not whollysurprising but disappointing nonetheless.

We believe our proposals for theaerodrome offer the best alternative forthe site and the borough of Waverley.

We are now considering our optionsto determine what will best allow usto push forward with our plans.

Our door is always open at Dunsfold Parkso if you have any questions, would liketo see the application or just look overthe site, please contact us on:01483 200 900.

Best wishes

I must say I was very flattered whenI heard that Nancy, Dunsfold Park’s PR &Media Officer, wanted to write a featureon me for the quarterly Newsletter.

I’ve been in the Estate Office for a coupleof years now and am very much part ofoffice life. In fact, for my second birthday, the staff took me out to supper at TheWhite Horse at Hascombe, where JohnBeckett runs a very dog-friendlyestablishment - and I was treated to acouple of supremely tasty sausages andone or two other tempting morsels thatjust happened to fall under the table.

My day at the office starts at around8am, with a constitutional. I accompanythe Chief Executive, Jim McAllister, onhis morning walk around the Estate. It used to be a brisk amble but, lately,we’ve stepped up a gear since the CEOtook delivery of a Body Buddy, which isa cross between a scooter and a cycle. He can work up quite a speed on thatand I’ve had to increase my pace to asteady jog to keep up - which doesn’tleave much time for rabbit chasing! After two laps of the perimeter trackI’m ready for my water bowl.

My first official duty of the day is to takethe newspaper into the CEO’s office for himto peruse whilst he’s having his breakfast.Abby spent quite some time - and not afew biscuits - training me to carry thepaper in my mouth but I think I’ve got itoff pat now and I’m well rewarded for myefforts with one or two tasty treats.

I like to think that I’m cognisant of prettymuch everything that goes on in the EstateOffice on a day to day basis. I used toattend a lot of very high level meetings, sitting under the table listening to thebuzz of conversation around the room, but, unfortunately, I forgot myself on

one occasion and blotted my copy book. One of the Group’s key financiers waswaving a sandwich around as he spokeand I just couldn’t contain myself; I restedmy muzzle in his lap which, bizarrely, caused him to jump six footin the air. Apparently, he thought thatthe lady sitting next to him was gettinga bit fresh... After that little indiscretionon my part I’m no longer permitted to sitin on important meetings. Which is a bitof a shame in some respects because theGroup does host a very good boardroomlunch...

Speaking of which, as you might imagine, lunch time is my busiest period of the day. With 14 members of staff in the EstateOffice, all preparing a delicious range ofsnacks in the kitchen, I’m kept very busyreminding them that I’m there if they canspare a few crumbs. I’m very proud of myrelationship with my colleagues; I get onwith absolutely everyone in the office andmy best friend is whoever is eating theirlunch. By the middle of the afternoon,I’ve spent a few minutes with everyonein the office.

Having said that, there was one minorfaux pas during the early days, whenI helped myself to a lovely turkey escalopesandwich which the Accounts Managerhad left unattended when he was calledaway from his desk. There weremitigating circumstances, I hasten toadd, he did leave it on a stool at muzzleheight so what was I supposed to think...

During the afternoon, I like to help out inReception and visitors to the Estate Officecan always rely on me for an enthusiasticwelcome - I’m not only very vocal butmy tail wags at an astonishing rate.

By 4.30 pm - my Master says he can sethis watch by me, I’m such a creature ofhabit - I’m beginning to think about mysupper, so I take up a position in thecorridor just outside the kitchen so thatmy Master doesn’t forget I’m here andthat I need feeding before we go homeafter another busy day at the office.
