From Head Teacher - Ms. Sue Hill

Dear Parents,

This term, the TX focus is on our community and today we welcomed our group of can-teen staff to our assembly. The canteen staff introduced themselves through short videos. I hope the children remember their names but if not they can check on the displays in the canteen.

All Stars of the Week were awarded for aspects of caring this week: caring about the community; caring about learning; caring about other children and caring about the environment. Every classroom has learning objectives displayed so children can work to-wards becoming a ‘Master of Caring’.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our Parents’ Information Evening next week. This session is important for all parents as a lot of details about the year ahead will be provided. Please see below for further details:

Today we were all in for a treat at assembly: Yu Gyeong and Mr Minh our new TX cello teacher performed at assembly. Mr Minh firstly spoke to us about the cello and performed a very moving cello piece called Reverie by Giovanni Bottesini. Next, Yu Gyeong from 6X took to the stage. She performed an amazing rendition of The Witches Dance by Niccolo Paganini.

Today application letters for musical instrument lessons are going out to all parents. Children at TX from Year 3 – 6 have the option of having lessons in a variety of musical instruments during school time. The choices of musical instruments are as follows: guitar, ukulele, drum kit, violin, clarinet, saxophone and cello. We have brand new cello, clarinet and saxophone teachers this year at TX and I hope many children will take advantage of learning these wonderful new instruments available at TX.

The deadline to return musical instrument application forms to Ms Emma or Mr Robbie is Friday 12th Septem-ber 2014.

Please remember to visit the TX music blog to see lots more photos and videos of musical activities in our school. xmusic2014-2015.blogspot.com

Blogspot

After the introductions of last week, this week the children were settling into new routines. For many, this

meant being introduced to their IPC topic. I have been looking at all the class blogs and have seen many

exciting ‘Entry Points’. The Year 2s spent time exploring different means of transport in the playground, whilst

the Year 6s examined and then dissected a brain. I was with the Year 5 children who were beginning their

topic on ‘Space’; on my blog you can see some photos and videos of Mr Terry and Mr Henry from AP2, setting

off rockets in the playground.

In this morning’s assembly, one of our music teachers, Mr Minh, and then Yu Gyeong in Year 6, played the

cello beautifully. Learning to play a musical instrument is not only a wonderful skill to have, but has many

benefits for the development of children’s (and adults for that matter) brains. You can find out more on my

blog.

On my blog (ianbattersby.blogspot.com) this week you will find the

following posts:

MP2 to AP1

Year 4 had a great time visiting AP1 as part of our IPC entry point to ‘Adventurers and Explorers’. Mr Simon told us that someone had left graffiti all over the school and we worked together using QR codes and ipads to solve the clues. Some comments from the children are that it was exciting, fun and they loved finding clues around the school and working together with Year 4 at AP1. The children in Year 4 are now confident explorers and can help solve any mystery! Ms. Anna Hughes

New!! Parent ran - Saturday Cricket Club

“ We are looking for parent volunteers, passionate about cricket, to coach our new team” Saturdays starting: 22nd September until 6th December 2014

Location and time : BIS TX Sports Hall, 12pm-1pm Fees : 300 000 VND

Welcome back BIS TX parents. I hope you had a great summer. We want to develop our TX parent community; our first step will be to start a cricket club run by volunteer parents. Why cricket and not football? Well, as you may know, An Phu primary parents run a football club on Saturdays. As this club is open to TX students as well, we decided to try something different. Cricket is a popular Commonwealth sport which means it is played by a lot of people! It is a fun game. What we need to start is the commitment of at least 3 or 4 parents (dads or mums), who will coach a team of 11 players. A certified coach will be helping at the be-ginning to give tips on how to coach. The idea behind this club is also to share a cultural aspect as well and to develop links between TX families. That club will be a perfect moment to socialize, don’t just drop your child but stay and meet new people. So, if you are passionate about cricket and want to be part of this, please send me an email at [email protected] . Thank you. Anne S.
