Issue 2 December 2014 On Saturday 29 th November 2014, the primary wing of Genesis Global School celebrated its Annual Day. It was a grand affair, with 100% participation of all students from Classes 2 to 5. The function was graced with the pres- ence of Dr Bhure Lal, Chairman of the school as the guest of honour. The Principal, Mr Pramod Sharma, delivered a speech to welcome the guests and open the proceedings. The show began with the students from MBCN performing a beautiful movement piece to a Prayer Song. The stu- dents performed with great enthusiasm and were received very well by the audience who were overwhelmed by their soulful rendition and could be seen wiping their tears. The ability to be thankful for all that we have in life is something that these children exemplify. Next was a Rock and Roll musical performance by the students of Classes 4 and 5. It was a foot tapping and uplifting medley of songs. The melody brought excitement and joy to the atmosphere. The students of Class 5, with mutual consensus decided on the story Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dhal for their play performance this year. Each Class performed a dance routine relating to the story, and wore elaborate costumes and makeup to bring vibrance, colour and energy to the performance. Their efforts paid dividends as their show was greatly applauded and appreciated by the family and friends who came along to watch. Through seemingly innocuous story ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’, the students learnt values and morals .The subtle but clear motif throughout the play was teaching children patience, self-control, reflection, consequences for actions, perseverance and graciousness. This year, the School’s Annual Report and Sports Report were eloquently shared by the Head of Junior School Mrs Neeti Bhalla Saini along with our young learners. The show ended on a high note with the Grand Finale, wherein all participants came to the stage to proudly take a bow. Various departments in the School came forward to do more than their bit to ensure smooth management of the show. Genesis Global Schools’ Annual Day for 2014 was a great success, and was enjoyed by all. On Saturday 29th November 2014, the primary wing of Genesis Global School celebrated its Annual Day. It was a grand affair, with 100% participation of all students from Classes 2 to 5. The function was graced with the pres-

ence of Dr Bhure Lal, Chairman of the school as the guest of honour. The Principal, Mr Pramod Sharma, delivered a speech to welcome the guests and open the proceedings.

The show began with the students from MBCN performing a beautiful movement piece to a Prayer Song. The stu-dents performed with great enthusiasm and were received very well by the audience who were overwhelmed by their soulful rendition and could be seen wiping their tears. The ability to be thankful for all that we have in life is

something that these children exemplify. MBCN is a sister concern of Genesis Global School and works to educate and equip special children to live within the community.

Their efforts paid

dividends as their show was greatly applauded and appreciated by the family and friends who came along to watch.

Through seemingly innocuous story Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, the students learnt values and morals .The subtle but clear motif throughout the play was teaching children patience, self-control, reflection, consequences for actions, perseverance and graciousness. This year, the Schools Annual Report and Sports Report

were eloquently shared by the Head of Junior School Mrs Neeti Bhalla Saini along with our young learners. The show ended on a high note with the Grand Finale, wherein all participants came to the stage to proudly take a bow. Various departments in the School came forward to do more than their bit to ensure smooth management of

the show. Genesis Global Schools Annual Day for 2014 was a great success, and was enjoyed by all. This show has raised

the bar of our expectations from our students but we

are more than confident that the Genesians will contin-ue to do us proud with their achievements and hard

work. By Asha Verma and Hannah King

Once upon a time, there lived a boy and a girl in a little house in the woods. One day

they were going to the garden to play. They were playing with a pink and blue ball.

The girls name was Shaiya and the boys was Sean.

After playing for some time, they went back home. It was Shaiyas birthday. All her

friends were invited to her birthday party and they all came, they played together.

They watched a puppet show while sipping cold juice. There was a magic show too.

The magician performed lots of magic. The children were enjoying the party. They

ate some hot yummy snacks. After the show, they sang the Birthday song and ate

lots of strawberry, blueberry cake which was arranged in layers.

All the children danced on the music and they played some games. They brought beautiful gifts for Shaiya which she

loved and she also gave lovely gifts to her friends. All the friends returned home. Shaiya played with her brother

Sean and shared her gifts with him. One of her friends gifted a Jewel Art set and Shaiya with her brother made a

necklace for her mother and a bracelet too. They played for a while and then they brushed their teeth, they changed

their clothes, wore their night suits and their mother told them a story. The storys name was Dick Whittington.

After listening to the story they all went to sleep.

Created and Illustrated by Vaibhavi Chhabra KG C and scribed by her mother.

For years, early childhood teachers have implemented show-and-tell as a natural extension of all early language experiences. It

is a learning engagement that can be socially rewarding and academically advantageous for young children while also strength-

ening the home-school connection. In this a child brings an object, pictures or any other thing required by the Class teacher and

shares his views about it with his peers.

In order to capitalize on the many benefits of Show and Tell, teachers in Genesis Global School take into account the age and

developmental level of the children in their class. This helps them to plan for childrens limited attention span, build speaking

skills, increase confidence in speaking, and minimize competition.

Show and Tell is designed to provide children with a forum for speaking publicly. Therefore, every effort is made to help them

feel successful as they present their views to an audience of their classmates .

Show and Tell isnt just about giving the child a reason to bringing things to class; each childs social, emotional and language

skills are made to grow. They develop from this activity the use of descriptive language, practise listening skills and share their

special items with others. Sharing prized possessions with peers makes for a fun and comfortable learning arena for everyone

    involved.

Some benefits of Show and Tell practice in Genesis include building of -

    Self-Esteem and Pride

Show and Tell time in our school gives children a chance to be the centre of attention for a bit as they explains the significance

of the item they bring and while other children show interest and ask questions about that loved object. This positive social inter-

action can really boost a childs self-esteem and make them feel good about themselves.

    Oral Skills

Show and Tell in the classroom helps strengthen the childs oral skills and helps foster public speaking skills .Children feel com-

fortable while talking to a group of peers.

    Social Skills

Because Show and Tell is a group activity, it helps teach children appropriate social skills. Each child is encouraged to be pa-

tient, take turns, use kind words. Also, Show and Tell opens up doors to make new friends. Once a learner has gone through

his/her Show and Tell, other children want to talk to him/her about it.

When we started the skype session , our teacher Mukti Ma'am, called up

Ms. Scarlet Campbell, the teacher from Ascot International School, Thailand

from her laptop. We all needed to prepare ten questions we wanted to

ask , before speaking in front of the web camera. After that, all of us asked

questions one by one from the Thai students and they also asked us ques-

tions about India. My whole class had lots of fun because we were doing it

for the first time. I hope that the Thai children also liked it. From this ses-

sion we got to know an interesting fact that our country India and Thailand have the same national

flower that is Lotus. The best part of the session was, when they and us both sang the national anthem

of our countries. When the skype session was over our teacher told us that the skype is an easy way to

communicate with each other and be connected with our loved ones living far away.

I am writing about a book called The Kashmiri

    Storyteller by Ruskin Bond.

This is a very interesting book about a boy

named Kamal. He is fond of listening to the sto-

ries of the Kashmiri man named Javed Khan.

Those who are interested in Kashmiri stories

can read it. The book is available in the library

in the Ruskin Bond section. If you do not find it

there then try to borrow it from someone or

buy it. Please read this interesting book of vari-

    ous Kashmiri stories!

    Aditi Thakur, V C

THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET is a wonderful

mystery book. In my opinion it is the best book that

I have read till now. It is available in the library. The

brief story is that Hugos father finds a mechanical

man who can write and give messages. His father

dies because of a fire and Hugo finds the mechani-

cal man in the garbage and fixes it. Now Hugo has

to find the message his father has saved for him.

If I could give marks to this book, I would give it a

ninety out of hundred. A good book with an exten-

sive vocabulary. It is a thick book but that doesnt

mean that reading a thick book is boring , its ac-

tually awesome. Moreover, it has a lot of pictures to

    explain things to the readers.

I suggest you borrow it and give reading it a try.

Robots are amazing machines that can work on their own. They can go into many plac-

es from space to deep underwater. There are various kinds of robots such as:

Humanoid robots- Scientists are building humanoid robots that can carry out a wide

    range of skills.

Robot explorers- This kind of robots can take pictures, go to different dangerous

places where normal people cannot visit and find out useful information without

    putting people at risk.

Rescue robots- Robots can save lives by fighting fires, searching for survivors, after

disasters and handling dangerous objects such as unexploded bombs.

Robot doctors- Robots are ideal assistants for human surgeons in hospital operations and can work for hours

    without getting tired.

Robots at home- The latest robots are doing useful jobs around the house.

These days robots are an important part of our life and I love them too.

Once upon a time, there was a lion .There was a

mouse too. One day the mouse was sleeping in his

house and the lion was standing on a big mountain.

He jumped down from the mountain and woke the

mouse. The mouse got angry and went to the lion

and said, "O lion, don't jump the way you jumped right now, Ok?". The lion

said, "No Mr. Mouse, I will continue to jump just like this ".

At 6 o' clock all the animals went for a jungle party. In the party the mouse

drank cold drinks and ate snacks. He enjoyed the snacks . The lion was also

there and both the lion and the mouse became good friends.

Last month I went to Jaipur with my parents. Something very funny happened on that trip.

My parents knew that I am very fond of reading books so they always want me not to carry

books while travelling. The day before we had to go, my mother asked me to pack my

things. I secretly kept my book along with my things. In the car when my parents were

busy talking I started reading my book. My mother kept thinking that i was sleeping. In

between I asked them the meaning of some difficult words, my mother turned back and

was very surprised to see me reading a book. She asked me from where I had got the book and I told her the

    entire story.

She asked me to keep it aside and take some rest but i didnt listen to her and finished the entire book. Finally

when we reached the Jaipur I had a bad headache and then I realised that I should have obeyed my parents

We at Genesis Global School believe in the famous quote by Edward

De Bono: Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in

an order to look at things in a different way. Keeping this in mind

Grade 2 used their imagination to the optimum to create body sys-

tems differently as they are learning about the functions of various

    body systems.

The young learners used wool and silver foil to create NERVOUS

SYSTEM and reflected their understanding of the same. They wrote

the journey of food , starting from the mouth till it turns into waste

food and is expelled from the body, amply displaying their under-

standing of the DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. Earbuds and matchsticks

were used in an artistic way to represent the SKELETAL SYSTEM.

    The pictures say it all!!

Our trip to Hisar was adventurous, interactive and full of fun. It was an absolutely fantastic stay at Vidya Devi

Jindal School. Vidya Devi is a Round Square School. I thought that my school Genesis was really big but this one

was gigantic. It was a school in which I can assure you that you would lose your way, at least once.

We had special assemblies in which we had conversations with keynote speakers. These were people who knew a

lot about this years round square topic Enrich, Elevate, Empower. We even had Barazza sessions in which we

interacted with students from other schools. These sessions also had many interesting activities like pottery, stone

    painting and art and craft.

We stayed in the staff residence of the school for five days. I thought I would get bored, however the DJ nights

and the company of old and new friends made it a stay worth cherishing. It was a great trip and I hope I get to

participate in Round Square every year.

We went to Ruhi Foundation for a social visit. We met our new friends who are not as privileged as us. We went

there and made a wish tree in which we took some paper and wrote our own wish. We noticed that they all wished

for their needs but we just wrote massive wants.

Then after some days they visited our school we, as hosts involved them in all the activities we did. We taught

them homophones using an interesting learning engagement. We even involved them in some physical activities

like shuttle run . We want them to come to our school regularly and learn and enjoy with us.

    Dear Shri Sharma,

I am writing this letter to you to express my sincere feelings of ap-

preciation for your staff and your school, Genesis Global School. My

two grandsons, Abhiraj Bains and Gunraj Bains, students of class 3C

and 1C respectively are studying in your school. On various occa-

sions like grandparents day or any other school functions, I make it

a point to attend if permitted. This gives me an opportunity to see

infrastructure of the school and various curriculums where children

participate. I always talk to the teachers and see their approach for

the development of the personality of the children over and above

the class environments of the school and very well managed facili-

ties, teachers put in lots of efforts to coordinate and harness the

childrens energy while performing for items they present. Individual

attention to the children by the teachers is praise worthy. To control

and coordinate such small wards requires extra efforts by teachers

which is there. Teachers are cooperative and communicative with

parents and grandparents. I wish you, the teachers and staff grand

    success.

With best wishes and warm regards

Yours truly, Major P.S. Bains (retd)

It was a sunny Sunday. It was Elsa's birthday. She liked

plants very much. She had two children Anna and Sam. Elsa was a very nice lady. She took good care of her family, her children and her husband. She liked plants

very much. The children thought they would give Elsa a few plants as her birthday gift. In the evening they

surprised her by giving her the gift. She was very happy and said I will never forget this birthday ever.
