Have you ever wondered why, on the Waiyaki way road, one part of the road is bent out of shape? It’s the worst patch to ride on, isn’t it? There are other sections of our roads in Kenya where this is evident as well.

Apart from perhaps the road construction that is probably questionable, there is an aspect of overloading of vehicles, especially light to heavy commercial vehicles, that causes this.

Commercial vehicles are those trucks (whether small, medium or large) that carry passengers or goods. You must have spotted those big trucks that are carrying containers or bales of items or even bricks and sand.

Let us start from how do we know when our vehicle is overloaded? Each vehicle is designed to carry a certain load. Even each tyre specifies how much load it can carry. This is generally indicated on the tyre sidewall and a TYREXPERT can translate this for you into KGs.

What causes overloading? When we carry more passengers than our car allows, carrying heavy luggage or goods. So you can visually notice that a vehicle has been overloaded when part of it is hanging lower e.g. the boot section (when the load is not evenly distributed on one axle) or when the tyres look pinched.

This causes massive strain to the vehicle, axle and tyres and the vehicle becomes unstable and unsafe for the passengers and drive alike. Note that the overload also causes an increase in fuel consumption and in the process increases your costs.

Over time, if this carries on, the damage on the vehicle is substantial increasing risk of accidents.

Kamal Shah, our Operations Director is a big fan of Golf just like most of our other directors at Kingsway. But he has taken a step further with his passion by involving himself into the sport and the club he belongs

to in what he calls “giving back to his club and members”. For the year 2011-2012, Kamal is the Captain of the Sigona Golf Club.

What does this mean? Kamal says “Being a captain is best explained as being CEO of the club. All 1500 members are under me, I represent the club countrywide, the course is under me making sure it’s well maintained among many other things and all tournaments that the club hosts is my responsibility.”

Not only is he responsible for the club as is, but from what the members agree in the AGM any projects for that year running becomes his projects. This year he has taken up the challenge of revamping the greens; it is an 18 hole course and so far they have completed 5 of them!

Sigona Golf course is one of the top courses in Kenya and a lot of work has been put into making this happen over the years. Kamal has been a member of this club for the last 15 years and has risen to the current rank through hard work, time and dedication. Last year he served as a Vice captain and for the 2 years previous to that he stood as Director. We wish them both a successful year!

Kingsway’s branch expansion team is very ambitious and hard working. This year we are proud to announce yet another Kingsway TYREXPERT Centre open in Mombasa on Moi Avenue. It is conveniently located opposite

Cannon Towers in the city centre bringing ourselves “closer to our customers”. You will find the same consistent product and services at this branch as you would at any of our branches countrywide. Get your wheels balanced, car aligned or purchase your tyres from a wide range of available brands!

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a customer at your Westlands branch at corner plaza.

I would like to express my satisfaction with the excellent service received today and in the past. Noteworthy was the young Sikh man (Tirath “Sunny” Sehmi) who took his time to educate me on tyre care ,types etc.

The Indian lady (Tejal Shah) at the till is also very professional and friendly at all times. She extended me a discount (much appreciated) and was courteous all through.

I got four pieces of BFGoodrich off roaders incase that info is relevant.

The tyre fixing staff were ok as well.

Keep it up!

This year’s senior staff annual party was held at the Pride Inn Hotel in Westlands.

The gala event was full of flair and elegance as a majority of staff and guests honoured the dress code of the day. They wore a wide variety of trendy cultural outfits and I must emphasize that everyone looked the part, of course with a few notable exceptions.

Guests started streaming in at exactly 7pm with Mr. Sundip Patel standing in as our usher. Among the main attractions for the night for me included the scrumptious food and the music brought by none other than our celebrated Security Chief a.k.a DJ Issa Premji.

The games were fun and interactive, managing to engage everyone in the crowd from Directors to Guests and staff, and make no mistake no one was

spared. My highlight particularly for this segment was the Mummy game. Participants called onto the stage for this game were paired up and given two rolls of tissue paper. All they had to do was to roll up their partner from head to toe and achieve this in the shortest time possible. Eventually we had a pair of winners each presented with a Nakumatt shopping voucher for their effort.

As usual we had the speeches followed by the presentation of trophies to various extraordinary achievers of the year. Last but not least as a major attraction we had the Sarakasi dancers & acrobats to entertain us. To sum up the performances is just one word – Exhilarating.

They say every good thing has to come to an end and as the curtains rolled down on the annual party, I couldn’t help but feel sad. But on the brighter side I really had a great time I’m sure everyone else did.

This year, Kingsway Tyres sponsors our very own staff for the Kenya Safari Rally series! Ravi Chhaniyara, Branch Manager Eldoret and Ashok Patel, Branch manager Nakuru have teamed up to test their rally

skills and compete in this year’s Rally competitions. Their Subaru Impreza is done up with BF Goodrich G-FORCE rally tyres mounted on them.

So far the two have participated in the Nakuru and Kisumu Rallies. In the Nakuru rally their entry point was at the last position (54th) and they proudly finished at the 23rd position. At the Kisumu rally unfortunately they couldn’t complete because of turbo failure at the 4th stage, but commendable all the same.

However, it is also great to know that the tyres have completed so far 600kms without getting a single puncture despite going through some of the toughest terrain; from the rocky, stony and sandy river beds of Baringo to the rough and sticky black cotton soil of Kisumu!

Congratulations are in order for the branches that exceeded in their performance over the Christmas season: Drive – In, University Way, Corner Plaza, Village Market, Kakamega, Nakuru, Mombasa. Each branch (junior and senior staff) was awarded with a dinner treat at a restaurant of their choice.

MC’s, Christine and Njoroge, liven up the event for the guests. Inserts: Lucy Wanjiku and Evans Lambisha really enjoying themselves at the party

Abhishek Tiwary recieves the Employee of the Year award from Mr. Sanjay Shah (Finance Director) and Mr. Manoj Shah (Managing Director)

The Kingsway Junior Staff were not left out as they attended the Junior Staff Party at our Funzi Rd. Branch
