TRANSCRIPT
Since last term, the News-
paper club has gained 2
new writers! Our new
team is:
Stephen Ogunmwonyi (6F)
Jasper Lippett (6T)
Neriya Cassim (6M)
We lost a few valuable
members – Isaac and
Sam.
Here’s what our new
members have to say:
Jasper:
‘I wanted to sign up for
newspaper club last term
but I couldn’t because I
had already picked an-
other club. I think that I
can give the club high
quality articles for stu-
dents. I like the people I’m
working with.’
Neriya:
‘I enjoy newspaper club
because I can produce
high quality writing. I think
I could bring happiness and
joy to the club.’
Miss Giles is still the editor
of the newspaper club.
We look forward to bringing
you lots of news about BISH!

Last term, the BISH Foxtrot took place at the running track. Mr. Young and Miss
Kirman hosted the Foxtrot as it’s an Air House event.
Every child at BISH ran around of the track the field twice! Luckily, KS1 only had to
run round the track once. There was also an obstacle course children could at-
tempt for extra team points!
The aim of the Foxtrot was to earn team points for your house and to have fun.
I spoke to some children about their experiences of the Foxtrot.
“Stella did you like the fox trot?”
“No and yes. No because I didn’t like how far we had to run, but yes because it
was it was fun earning team points! I
liked how the teachers ran with us!”
But here is the most important part – the
results for the Foxtrot!
In 4th place – Air with 161 points.
In 3rd place – Fire with 187 points.
In 2nd place – Water with 214 points.
In 1st place – EARTH with 276 points!!
If you want the fox trot to happen again stay and run at BISH!
Don’t run away from the fox trot!

Green Thumbed Year 6’s
Many students may now have
seen the newly built Year 6 Gar-
den and many more have seen
how well the garden is flourish-
ing. The garden is located near
the entrance to the Gold Gym.
Among the vast types of plants
being grown are:
Carrots
Leeks
Strawberries
Herbs
Texas Wildflowers
The idea for the garden came to
be when Miss McBride brain-
stormed ideas to link the Year 6
IPC topic, Fit 4 Life, and the real
world. One of the ideas was a
Year 6 Garden.
The team of caretakers Mr

Garden Force, have been working re-
lentlessly to cater to the gardens
every need; missing out on their free
time so the plants keep on growing.
Mr Young said, “I love the garden, but
it would be better if more students
would help out. The cauliflowers are
coming through. It’s rather exciting!”
The Garden is open to help from all
years. The food that is grown will be
used to make the school dinners
made by Dine. Watch out for purple
cauliflowers!

Fed up of all the mushy love
stuff that’s talked about in
February? Tired of seeing lit-
tle red hearts everywhere?
Well, here’s a terrible tale
that makes Valentine’s Day
much more cool!
The story of Valentines begins
in the rule of Claudius, the
Roman Emperor. Valentine
was a priest who believed
that young people should be
allowed to marry. The em-
peror didn’t see it this way.
He thought that unmarried
soldiers fight better than mar-
ried soldiers.
St. Valentine still performed
marriages in secret, but got
caught and thrown into jail. After years of imprisonment he was
killed horribly. The last words that he ever wrote were ‘to my val-
entines.’
In the present time people celebrate Valentine ’s Day to honour
the bravery of the priest.

The Horrible History of Valentine’s Day
New England Patriots Seattle Seahawks
28 - 24
Super Bowl 49 took place February 1st 2015. Before the game, most people
favoured Russell Wilson and the Seahawks after the ball scandal which hap-
pened during Tom Brady and the Patriots last game against the Indianapolis
Colts. They were accused of deflating balls so they were easier to grip. De-
spite this, the game went ahead and by halftime the game was tied at 14 all.
Katy Perry preformed the halftime show along with other singers.
During the second half, for the first time in the game, the Seahawks led after
they scored a field goal to make it 17 to 14. Soon after, the Seahawks were
in possession of the ball again and Wilson threw a superb touchdown pass to
Doug Baldwin who was then fined $11,025 for his celebration!
The game looked like it was going to be a Seahawks win. At the start of the
4th quarter the game was 24 – 14 to Seattle. Then, Tom Brady found his re-
ceiver in the end zone to make it a 3-point game. A failed drive by the Sea-
hawks resulted in the Patriots getting a winning opportunity. Tom Brady
passed to Julian Edelman and New England were leading by 4.
With less than 2 minutes remaining, the Seahawks had the ball. Wilson
looked long to Jermaine Kearse. Kearse fumbled with the ball and fell to the
ground still fumbling…but caught it! Now on the edge of the end zone, with
36 seconds remaining, most teams in a Super Bowl winning position
would’ve run the ball to win the game. Instead the Seahawks decided to pass
the ball. Wilson passed the ball to Chris Matthews…and Malcolm Butler inter-
cepted the ball! The Patriots had won the Super Bowl for the 4th time in in 15
years!

Big news! The 12th Judy Moody book is coming out! You won’t want to miss
it! The book is called Judy Moody and the Moody Martian.
If you’ve not read them, you can borrow the rest of the Judy Moody books from our school library.
My favourite Judy Moody book is book 10. It’s about Judy Moody and her little brother Stink. Her aunt comes to visit and Judy’s parents go on vaca-tion. Stink wants to find Bigfoot but Judy has other plans! Judy makes up a competition with her friends and she ends up in a river! To find out what happens next, you’ll have to read the book!
I give this book 5 stars!

Brilliant Books!

Book review for boys: Stranded
by Jeff Probst
Aimed at ages 8 and up
Stranded is a book about 4 children called Carter,
Jane, Buzz and Vanessa. Their parents are on their
honeymoon and their uncle takes them on a boat trip
for a week. Disaster strikes and they are stranded on
an island in the south Pacific with hardly any food or water. They struggle to survive.
Will they ever get home and see their parents again? The book is hard to describe
without spoiling it so if you want to find out what happens you’ll have to read the
book.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars because the story is good but it’s hard to understand what
person it is written in.

What are your thoughts
on our school at the
moment?
The building isn’t great,
but the teachers and
students are fantastic!
Everyone is friendly,
courteous, hard work-
ing and fun!
Interview A Teacher
This week, we thought who better to interview than our new Head
teacher Mrs. McPhee! We also let Gigi get in on the action too!
Mrs. McPhee, are you
going to be sad when
you leave us in
August?
Yes I am, because the
students, no matter
what age, are abso-
lutely lovely!
Are you going to make
any changes to the
school whilst you’re
here?
I’m going to be work-
ing closely with the
new Head teacher, Mr.
Derry, and I will make
sure all the children
are prepared for his
arrival in September.
What made you
choose to come
and work at the
British International
School of Houston?
I didn’t choose this
school, I was asked
to come, but I knew
it was a very nice
school. That made
it easy to say yes to
the job!
Can you tell us any
more information
about the new Head
Teacher?
Mr. Derry is cur-
rently Head teacher
at a British school
in Budapest. He
has already been to
visit us once and
may well come
again in the future!

Year 9 have been hard at work planning, organizing and creating a fun charity
event that the entire school can take part in! As part of the Make It Right Cam-
paign (you’ll be learning more about this in class over the next week or so), 9SK
have created the Soup and Bread Roll day so that you can be involved! They
would like everyone in the school to order a bowl of soup and a bread roll from
DINE to eat on Friday, the 27th February. There will be no other hot lunch
choices that day. Each meal will be $5. All the money from the event will go to
the Houston Food Bank, that feeds children all over Houston who don’t know
where their next meal is coming from. You might feel a bit hungry during the
day, but that’s nothing compared to what some children face every day.
Hopefully, lots of money will be raised and we can bring you some amazing
photos in the next issue!!
