Whilstcontemplatingmyreportthismonth,Ilookedatthepageheading“fromthetop”andconsideredtheperceptionofthemeaning.Iwishtobeclear,Idon’tconsidermyselftobeanywherenearthetop,preferringtostandalongside,collaborative,andlisteningtoourmembers.Iattributeourongoingsuccessestotheteamofearnestvolunteersonyourcommittee.
So,consideringthis,theterm‘mydoorisalwaysopen’hastobesaidtoourCPHBAmembers,ifyouhaveanynewsorconcernsthatwillaffectourmembershippleasefeelfreetodropmyselforGarryBatesanemail.
LastmonthGarryBates,NickThompsonandIattendedadeputationonbehalfofCPHBmembers,totheHendersonMasseyLocalBoard.Itwasanenlighteningexperience,evenjustconsideringtheirmassiveagendaitemslist.Itwasenormous!Fromthisperspectivetheygainedanewrespectfromme.I’mgladtosayourreportwaswellreceivedandwearemorepreparedfortheprocessgoingforwardandappreciatetheongoingsupportoftheincumbentboardmembers.
Ifyou’rewonderingwhatadeputationis,it’stheopportunityforcommunitiesandorganisationstospeaktothelocalboard.Wedesiretobeopenandclearofouragenda,andreporttothemourengagementandsuccesseswehaveachievedforourmembershipandlocalcommunities.It’simportantthatourlocalgovernmentconsidersanydecisionsmadethatwillimpactlocalbusiness,allowingCPHBAtobeamoreeffectiveadvocate.
Atlastmonth’sCPHBAboardmeeting,IwasformallyvotedinasChairperson.Notoneforprocrastination,andafirmbeliever
thatsolidprocessesmakeagoodbusinesssense-priortotheformalities,Itooktheinitiativetoreviewourboardmeetingprocess.Afterresearchingoptionsforimprovement,hadaeurekamomentandfoundalocalsoftwareproductthatfitted.Didduediligenceetcandwentforit,uploadedpreviousmeetingdataintoatrialmodeallwhilehopingtheboardlikedtheidea.Fortunately,thenewprocesswassuccessfulandapprovedbymyfellowboardmembersandimmediatelyimplemented.I’m100percentpositivethatthiswillgiveusanefficiencyinordermakebetteruseofourtime,becauseweallknowtimeisacommoditythatshouldnotbewasted.
WhilewehereatCPHBAhavechosenafewheroareaswherewecanmakeadifferencetoourcommunity,wedoconsiderthebenefitofcreatingourBusinessImprovementDistrict,andhowmuchmorewecandoforthelocalbusinessesandcommunities.Youdon’thavetolooktoofartoseeotherareasofAucklandwhereithasmadearealdifference.Ipersonallylikethechoiceoflocalsbeingincontrolofwhereourdollarsarespent,itisafarfaireroption.
