ENRICHMENT DAYS

Computing at Little Waltham

‘Our first task was to write instructions on how to get down from a

slide. We then gave those instructions to other children to see if they

could understand and follow our instructions. We then got to do

snakes and ladders with B-Bots giving instructions on where to move them to. After lunch we got to do

different games - we had a brilliant day and lots of fun.’ By Lillie

Spanish at Broomfield

‘On Monday Star and I went to Broomfield Primary for a Spanish Day.

We learnt lots of words like por favour - ‘please’. Our teacher was

called Mrs Luck. In the class we had children from other schools. We

face timed Mrs Lucks daughter who lives in Spain and she was an-

swering our questions and she helped us learn two Spanish songs. We

had a great day.’ By Zachary and Star

Girls Sport at Great Waltham

‘What a great day we had! All day doing sports with lots of other girls from local schools, our

favourite way to spend a Monday.’ By: Bethan, Lois D and Niamh

Year 3 Science

Year 3 used mirrors to notice that light is reflected from surfaces. We played games including the Mirror Maze: For this game, we attempted to walk along a wavy line while looking only in a mirror held overhead. We found it tricky because of the apparent reversal of left and right when looking in the mirror.

Junior Music Festival

Well done to our choir who took part in the Junior Music Festival on Monday. It was a fabulous concert,

started by our very own Millie, who sang a solo in front of a large audience at the Civic Theatre. The singing

was superb, and dance actions added to the fantastic atmosphere. Thank you to all children for their effort

and enthusiasm, to Miss Plumb for all her training and to parents for their support.

‘On the 17th June the choir went to the Junior Music Festival. When we arrived we met all the other schools

and our conductor Natalie. We had to rehearse all day and it was very hot on stage. We had to learn lots of

songs but the most popular was ‘Tragedy’. The show was lots of fun and there were lots of amazing acts

such as piano and the harp! To start the show we had 6 soloists to do a couple of lines of the song ‘One

Voice!’ We all had to stand up afterwards and got a huge round of applause. After the soloists, the curtain

came up and everyone joined in with the chorus. Natalie was very funny, and she made the audience dance

to ‘Tragedy’. We all had lots of fun but got back very late and were all tired in the morning.’

Bees

On Wednesday Squirrel class had a special visit from a bee farmer. Stacy from Sunnyfields Honey, came to visit and talk to the children all about keeping bees. She brought her bee suits with her along with the smoker, a skep and some honey! Stacy talked to the class about the bees whilst the children asked brilliant questions and looked at the equipment. They were then allowed to try on the suit and hat. After Stacy had talked to the class they took part in a number of bee related activities and tasted samples of five different honeys. The class voted for their favourite honey which turned out to be a rich, dark honey from Ethiopia.

Yr. 5 Peer Mentor Introduction Day

‘On Wednesday 19th June 2019 Year 5 had a Peer Mentor trainer came in and gave us a talk about becoming

peer mentors. First we played a chair game to get to know each other a bit better. How to play:

1. First put chairs into a circle.

2. Then ask someone to go into the middle to be the questioner.

3. They ask a question; for example - ‘if you have brown hair’

4. If the question applies to you, you have to stand up and swap seats with someone.

5. Whoever is left standing in the middle is now the questioner and will repeat the same process.

Next we got a giant piece of paper after we got into groups of 4 or 5. We drew around 1 person and wrote

what we liked, we disliked, we are good at, and what we would like to get better at. After that we had to

show it to the class. Finally we had a piece of paper where there was 5 reasons that we had to fill in. We had

to write; ‘What can we do to help our friends if they are unhappy?’

After the trainer left we wrote a letter to Miss Steward on why we wanted to be a Peer Mentor.’

Dance Competition

We had some great entries for our in-school dance competition. Miss Le Masurier will be revealing the win-ners next week! Good Luck to all took part.

Athletics Yr. 5/6 v Boreham

Last Friday saw our last competitive fixture of the year against Boreham school. It was our year 5's and 6's and the sport was Athletics. We took a large team of children to the event, which involved sprint races, a long distance race and sprint relays. All the children took part in at least two events, with some taking part in all three. The chil-dren were very successful and managed to win the event by quite a convincing margin. There were also lots of individual performances to celebrate as well. Well done to all the children who took part and thank you parents for the supporting the event.

Outside Learning

Dove class took their maths learning outside today due to Barry fix-ing a leak in our classroom. We started in the sun but it was so hot so we worked in the band stand! We loved working outside!

Year 2 - Art

‘On Wednesday afternoon we made a sheet full of painting which we had printed on. First we drew the designs on our whiteboards and then got a piece of polystyrene. We had to use a pencil to copy our designs from our whiteboards but we weren’t drawing we were scratching away at the polystyrene to make indents. Then we used a roller to put printing paint onto our design and printed them onto paper and onto a class sheet. We filled the sheet completely using green and blue paints and we think it looks Amazing! Mrs Waters loved it too!’ By Joe

Potato Harvest

‘Today we harvested the potatoes we planted in March. Rabbits had bigger potatoes than us. This is be-cause they were in a better place. They were in the sun outside their class our potatoes were grown outside our classroom in the shade. I liked getting dirty and digging up the potatoes. I found loads, we got a whole bowl of them.’ By: Charlie and Ronnie Dove Class
