Dear Parents and Caregivers, We apologise for our tardiness with this week’s newsletter, however we have been without power for the better part of the past two days. Easter Hat Parade – Thanks to everyone who came along to our Easter Hat Parade. I was so impressed with the EGG-cellent hats our students paraded today. It was lovely to have Lawson Community Preschool join us as well. Young Leaders Day – Mrs Bate and our leaders had a fantastic day on Monday. They joined 6000 other students to listen to a range of inspirational speakers and meet student leaders from other schools. Thanks again to the P&C for funding this event each year. SRC – The SRC Harmony Day fundraiser was a huge success. Unicef received a cheque for close to $200, as a result of your generous contributions on the day. Debating Workshop – A group of Stage Three students took part in a debating workshop at Katoomba HS on Monday. The day was extremely informative and Mrs Howard has remarked how well-behaved and engaged our students were on the day. Thanks to the parents who transported students to and from the venue. Murder in the Manor – Six Stage Three students will be taking part in this dramathematical exercise on Monday, 8 April. Thanks to Mrs Howard for overseeing the coordination of this activity. School Uniform – We have noticed a number of students wearing items of jewellery to school of late. Students are permitted to wear plain studs, or sleepers to school. Dangly earrings and bracelets/bangles etc. should not be worn. We thank you for your support. SDDs Term Two and Three – Just a reminder that the first TWO days of term two will be Staff Development Days. All staff at Lawson Public School will be taking part in annual mandatory training on those two days, therefore students will not return to school until Wednesday, 1 May, in term two. The Staff Development Day in term three will take place on Monday, 22 July, which is the second week of term, meaning that students will return to school on Monday, 15 July in term three. Reminders will be included in fortnightly newsletters. Issue 4 - Week 9 - Term 1 Thursday 28 th March, 2013

next p&c meeting When? Wednesday, 15th May 2013

Where? Community Hub Room

P&C meetings are a valuable opportunity to get informed, and have a say about what’s going on at our school.

magpie markets The next Magpie Markets are on Sunday, 21st April.

As the next markets are in the middle of the school holidays, we are giving you a break from helping on the BBQ, with another group taking up the opportunity to run the BBQ as a fundraising activity.

However, don’t let that stop you from coming along and supporting our stall holders. Come and wander, catch up with friends and browse. You never know what treasure you might find!

thank you To the parents, children and other helpers who gave time to help out at the March Magpie Markets – THANK YOU! Those people include; Anja, Monika, Jude, Jane, Ben, Lachlan, Zac, Stuart, Ant, Alex, Annie, James, Jane, Tanya, Sophie, Haylee, Mehmet and Shane.

class parent reps Thank you to everyone who has returned their note with contact details for the class parent reps. If you haven’t done so, please return the note to the office asap.

easter egg raffle Thank you to everyone who has donated goods and bought/sold tickets. You still have one more chance to do so. The raffle will be drawn tomorrow (Thursday 28th March) at the Easter Hat Parade. Don’t miss out!

build a burger day! Have your children received their note about this fun food day? It should have come home earlier this week.

It’s happening on Friday 5th April. Don’t forget to send your order and payment back to school by Tuesday 2nd April. (This is the day after the long weekend).

If you are able to volunteer to make/donate treats for children to buy at recess, or help prepare and serve burgers at lunch, we’d

really appreciate the help. Please come with your goodies, or helping hands to the school canteen on the day. We’d love to see you.

artist in residence This year our Artist in Residence program will take place in the week of 17-21 June. We have advertised in the Gazette for applications, but would love you to spread the word through your networks (applications closing 10th April).

If you are an artist/art teacher (or know someone who is) and would be interested in applying, please contact the school office for more details.
