Some staffing updates are as follows:- • Leanne Tingwell, our Assistant Principal, will be on leave for several weeks whilst she recovers
from recent knee surgery. • Shirley Borg (Engagement and Wellbeing Coordinator) has recently been married so we
congratulate Shirley who will now be known as Shirley O’Neill. • Leigh Fatchen is on leave this week and returns next week. Thank you to Pam Brenner for
replacing Leigh. • Welcome to Steve Moore who will be taking Music. Special thanks to Kate Whelan who
stepped in and took Music during term 1.
PFA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
This week, our PFA held their Annual General Meeting and it was great to see a number of
parents coming along including two new parents. The PFA President Bridget Ramaekers
presented a comprehensive report on a highly active, productive and successful year in 2014. I
thank and congratulate our hard working PFA parents on the magnificent job they continue to do.
Apart from raising valuable funds for the school, the PFA works very hard to promote a sense of
community at GK. Parents work alongside each other, staff and students and collectively help out
in so many different ways. We are extremely grateful for the wonderful support we receive from
our PFA members and we certainly look forward to another very productive and successful year
ahead. I know how much the PFA also looks forward to the support of our whole school
community too so please stay connected, read any information circulated by the PFA and
regularly check the PARENTS tab on the school website where our PFA web editor does a great
job in providing informative updates for pur parent community. The PFA INCENTIVE PROGRAM
provides a great opportunity for families, friends, staff and relatives to directly support the school
when purchasing through a range of different suppliers. Check the information on our website
homepage, note the participating suppliers list and if you use any of these providers, then you too
can support the school in the year ahead.
Congratulations and thank you to the following parents who have agreed to take on PFA roles this
year:-
President: Bridget Ramaekers Secretary : Kate Arnot
Vice President: Natalie King Treasurer : Carol Kovacic & Annette Miller
Fundraising / Social Convenor: Jack Nicholson
Welcome Committee: Catherine Robertson

Value awards to be presented at assembly on Monday 21st April 2015
This term the prep students will be learning about ‘People who help us in the Community.’ We
have organised guest speakers to come and visit the preps and discuss their ‘jobs’ and how they
help others. So far we have been able to organise visits from the Police, Ambulance, Fire Bri-
gade, St John’s Ambulance, Nurse, Doctor, Crossing Lady, Principal, Canteen Lady and Librarian.
We would appreciate any other speakers so if you are a: Veterinarian, Dentist, Carpenter, Secu-
rity Guard, Postal Worker, Refuse Collector, Council Worker or a volunteer of any kind we would
love you to visit our classroom. We would require you to speak to the preps and bring along any
tools, equipment etc. which you may use in your work.
If you can help us out and are happy to speak to the preps, please contact Mrs Totino (Prep
Team Leader) in the prep building or let the office know.
Thank you

Anzac InvitationAnzac InvitationAnzac InvitationAnzac Invitation
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings in Gallipoli on the
25th April 2015, we will be having a special whole school assembly on
Friday 24th April at 12.15pm (to approximately 12.45pm)
Family and friends of the GK community are invited to attend. Weather permitting
we will be having the assembly on the lawn area at the front of the school. In this
time we will be unveiling our “Gallipoli Bollard”, planting a Gallipoli Oak and our stu-
dent leaders will guide us through the assembly.
We hope you can join us as we remember and pay our respects to all those who
served in wars.
House Fun Run
The House Fun Run took place on Thursday March 27th and was a fantastic conclusion to our Term
1 school-wide Health and Fitness focus.
The day kicked off with a wonderful team of students, House Captains, parents and teachers set-
ting up the course. The weather didn’t look promising with some wind and clouds about, however
we were lucky and it turned into a beautiful, sunny day.
First up were the Grade 3-6 races, which were high stakes with the top 12 in each age group earn-
ing the chance to run at the District Cross Country. The course was challenging with two long and
steep hills to climb and it was great to see the students persisting and supporting others as they
completed the course. Mrs Whelan even tested herself against the Grade 5 Girls and made it
around in great time. Students who weren’t racing were on the oval learning chants and cheers for
their houses, which we hope to see at future house events.
After lunch, it was the Prep – Grade 2’s turn to take on the course. The Prep students were first to
run and took on the two lap race with enthusiasm. The Grade 1 and 2 races were hotly competed
with some familiar faces ending up on the podium for another year. Some great sportsmanship was
on display throughout the races and the students competed to the best of their ability. Mrs
Tingwell, Mrs Ramsay, Shaz and Mrs Totino pushed their voices to the limit when teaching every-
one the house cheers.
After recess was a chance for the whole school to celebrate the Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds focus
from Term 1 with students from most year levels presenting their findings from the Expo, including
information on why we sleep and how water helps us, as well as some creative performances from
the Prep and Grade 1 students who performed with confidence.
Finally, it was over to Mr Blackburn to conclude the Fun Run
day and announce the scores, which Mrs Elliot had
diligently tallied.
The final scores were:
1st - Correa 402
2nd - Acacia 363
3rd - Grevillea 336
4th - Eucalypt 256
Congratulations to all who participated in the House Fun Run and an enormous thank you to all
students, parents and teachers who helped with set-up, pack up and supervision on the course. A
final thank you to Mr Blackburn, who ensured the Fun Run was successful. Good luck to the stu-
dents who will be training and competing in the District Cross Country during Term 2.

Junior School Council
2015
The Junior School Council (JSC) has been formed for this year! Each class has voted and appointed 2 class representa-
tives. The students have met already this Term and have had the opportunity to vote for a President and Vice President
after listening to a number of grade 6 students who were very keen to take on the leadership roles. In the table below
are all the enthusiastic students who will be presented at school assembly on Monday 20th April. The students will meet
at least once a month to discuss ways to make the school a fantastic place for everybody while at work and play and to
also discuss ways in which to fundraise for people who may need extra support in times of hardship.
