Y11 CAREER OPPORTUNITY

30 Year 11 students spent the day at Chichester University. They took part in several careers-related workshops, exploring the different pathways that they can take after Year 11 in order to achieve their potential. All the students had fun working together doing team building activities, listening to student ambassadors and ambassadors from industry, and then researching possible degree courses at different universities. Everyone was impressed with the tour of the campus where they saw the amazing sports facilities, high tech computers in the library and the student residences. It was a great day and the vote of thanks was given by Tommy Regan. Thanks to Mrs Goodman and Mr Bowles for organising this inspirational day.Well done to all those who attended - you were excellent representatives for our school. Thank you, Miss Gittus.

Huge well done to Cameron Hildreth 10PGI for being selected for the England Basketball Under 16s squad for a camp which will take place this coming December in Manchester. The school is very proud of you!

SPORTS UPDATEIt was mixed results within Angmering PE & Sport this week. The Year 9 Football team put up a valiant performance v St Andrews, however lost out 4-1 in a well battled contest with Tobias Collyer scoring the only goal for Angmering. The newly formed 6th form Rugby team battled hard against an older Bhasvic side, in a game that proved a stern test for An-gmering. Both teams demonstrated fantastic defensive and passing displays however it was Angmering that finished runners up in a close encounter. The Year 10 Rugby team continued their fine form adding to their win against St Andrews with a convincing win away at East Sussex based Blatchington Mill. Angmering led from start to finish with a solid team performance, special mention to Harrison Southern who captained the team fantastically.

Y11 Rugby Win!Angmering Year 11 made it 2 wins out of 3 with an emphatic 64-10 victory over St Andrews. Not even the bad weather conditions could stop Angmering playing their best rugby of the season as they led from start to finish with an all-round disciplined team performance. MOTM was awarded to hard working ever reliable Jared Penfold, however it was an all-round stellar team performance as Angmering romped to victory.

Up next Blatchington Mill in the County Cup & Worthing in the District League.

Y7 Love Music Assembly

The music clinicians from Love Music held a joint extended assembly for years 7 and 8. Tightly packed in the hall they listened intently to the exciting opportunities available to them in terms of instrumental tuition. They were serenaded on entry by the vocal coach and piano tutor, running through a list of well known pieces. This was all wrapped up with a dazzling display of guitar playing running seamlessly from AC/DC, Black Sabbath to Classical hits. If you would like to take up some of these opportunities, please see the letter from Love Music.

MONDAY NIGHT THRILLER!!!!!In a match that pushed Arsenal v West Brom close to the Monday Night Football slot live on Sky Sports, 2 unbeaten teams went head to head and produced a 7 goal thriller with the home side Angmering gaining the upper hand picking up all the points. In a tense game throughout it was the away side that started the game more positively dominating in small stages. However after 10 minutes and some changes made Angmering settled down and capitalised on a defensive error allowing Jacob Crulley to tap home from close range. With the game taking its toll and both teams working hard to play neat football, it was the keepers who were both tested and called into action with Alfie Pearce making a great save. As the first half drew to a close the game took a massive twist, Durrington equalised through a lapse of concentration then went into the interval 2-1 up as they were awarded a penalty. With a stern half time talk Angmering came out rejuvenated in the second half, led by the vocal Captain Harry Dynan. With passes exchanged it was the dynamic midfield duo of Jack McLelland & Harry Merritt Blann who started to excel and ran the show and soon honours were even as Harry Merrit Blann scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-2.A share of the points soon became advantage Angmering as a mazy run from Jack McLelland slotted in Harry Merrit Blann to make it 3-2 & soon 3 became 4 when Jake Gilby & Harry MB linked up to allow Nathan Littleboy to get on the score sheet to make it 4-2.As the game entered the final stages, Durrington pulled one back to make it 4-3 to set up a nervy few minutes, however a disciplined Angmering held out to take all the points.Overall a fantastic display from the boys in blue who demonstrated high levels of hard work and resilience. MOTM went to the energetic Jack McLelland who was fantastic in the middle of the park in his first start of the season, Next up two games v Steyning & Worthing High as Angmering look to seal their place in the semi-finals.

Valedictory Definition--Valedictory- adj. signifying a goodbye, farewell. n. a valedictory address; oration delivered by valedictorian (colleges and schools).

Discussion-- Not many of us have a chance to be the valedictorian of our class. I know that I was not the privileged one to give the valedictory address, but I think it would have been a kick. I can see it now: the crowd, basking in my illuminating brilliance, ready to be awed, waiting expectantly for the words that will forever change their lives. But instead I listened to our valedictorian deliver a dull speech about great expectations and exciting new frontiers. It was a better speech than I actually would have produced. The speech at the end of our school years is not the only application for the adjective, valedictory. It can be used to refer to anything that signifies a farewell or leave-taking. For instance, the valedictory handshake you give your father before you leave for college. The valedictory symbol that we are most familiar with is the wave, a nearly universal way of saying goodbye.I have always viewed goodbyes as being sad occasions. I need to figure out a way to view each parting as a new beginning leading towards new and diverse adventures, but I always feel as if a part of me is dying. Of course, I’m not talking about how I feel when I am saying goodbye as I head out to McDonald’s to grab dinner. That would be a little melodramatic, don’t you think?

Etymology--Valedictory- formed in English from Latin valedictum, past participle of valedicere, bid fare-well.
