Dear parents and carers, staff,
students and community members
Anzac Celebrations Hope you and your family had a great week-end taking part in and recognising the 100
th
Anniversary of our soldiers leaving Albany for World War 1. This event was a great credit to the City of Albany and its residents. Next year the school looks forward to taking classes of students to the new National Anzac Centre as part of our History Curriculum and helping to instil in the next generation this important event in Australia and Albany’s History.
Junior Block new Playground Update. Plans are well under way and construction will start soon on our new junior primary playground K- Year 3 on the cnr of Gordon St and O’Connell St. South Coast Nature Play will be erecting a pirate ship with appropriate soft fall using the $20 000 grant money we received plus $3320 of school funds. After this has been constructed, the school will fund new fencing costing $7144. So we can make way for the new pirate ship construction, we need to remove some brick paving (9m) from the path leading out to Gordon Street. The P&C will be holding a busy Bee on Wednesday 12 November at 3.15pm to achieve this. Please see the advert in this newsletter. See you there.
School Closed A reminder that the school will be closed for students this Friday 7 November, for the Albany Agricultural Show Day. The staff will be very busy fine tuning our teaching and assessment strategies of Maths facilitated by Dr Paul Swan (coming from Perth). Other smaller schools will also join with us to utilise his expertise.
Please remember to visit the Little Grove Art Display at the Albany Agricultural Show this weekend
Positive Behaviour Program Little Grove has launched the first version of our expected behaviours matrix. This has been compiled by staff and student and is an integral component of the positive behaviour in schools (PBS) program which the school is involved in. The key behaviours expected by all members of Little Grove Primary School community are: open to learning, show respect, be responsible and build resilience. The students will be taken through the matrix over the next few weeks and taught the expected behaviours. This week’s focus is use manners and next week will be use appropri-ate language. Please take the time to discuss the expected behaviours with your children and ask them if they have received any Groovy Grover's this week.

Agriculture Discovery Trail
Albany Agricultural Show 7 & 8 Nov 2014
A Discovery Trail relating to things Agricultural and
Horticultural will be run at the Albany Show this year.
This is being organised jointly by the Dept. of
Agriculture & Food (DAFWA) and the Albany Agricultur-
al Society.
The aim is to encourage students to visit exhibits
relating to Agriculture and Horticulture and can be done
as a family activity at the show.
Prizes will be awarded for the first two correct entries
drawn and all students returning a completed entry
sheet will receive a free wrist slap-band.
Question sheets will be available to be picked up at the
show. Look for the Department of Agriculture & Food
trailer just inside the main entry gate and opposite the
shearing shed. The trail will run on both days from
9:00am to 4:00 pm.
The question sheets will direct students to a number of
displays, sheep, cattle, horticulture, poultry etc. and will
have a question relating to that display to be answered.
Completed sheets to be dropped back at the DAFWA
trailer where they were obtained.
Prize winners will be drawn following the show and noti-
fied via their school.
There will also be a school prize for the school from
which most entries are received.
Moving Schools or Location in 2015?
It is crucial that you inform the school of any intention to move from Little Grove in 2015. Our funding and the way
we organise classes is dependent on an accurate understanding of student numbers in each year level across the
school. From here on in and for the remainder of the year, notifying us if your child will not be here in 2015 will
greatly assist when it comes to planning for the new school year. Thank you for your co-operation.

Choose Your Own Adventure - Orienteering in Little Grove this Saturday afternoon
Students, families, staff and friends are invited to an orienteering event at 2pm this Saturday..
ADHOC Orienteers are a new club in the Great South-ern and welcome all newcomers - no orienteering experience required!
At 2pm everyone starts at once and using the full-colour map of the Little Grove suburb will walk or run around finding red & white checkpoints in any or-der until they have enough for their course.
There are 3 courses available, plus a short 'string course' for 3 - 6 year olds. The short course will be 2-3km, the medium course about 5km and the long course around 7km - the time taken and distance depends on which checkpoints you choose to go to - and how well you navigate around the streets, parks and tracks of Little Grove.
For more information please visit www.adhocorienteers.com.au and find us on Facebook
for the most up to date information and news. Alternatively, please give club President and event organiser John Toomey a call on 0407 519 232

A huge thank you from all the students and staff to the
P&C Committee for providing a class set of high quality
aprons for us to use during our cooking classes.

Under the guidance of Mrs Dawson the students
prepared a fabulous meal, which they all enjoyed.

This report from the Chair of our School Board was presented to the Board at our last meeting held 4 November 2014, it is enclosed for your information.
Chairperson’s Report 2014
The composition of the 2014 Little Grove Primary School Board underwent a few changes this year. Carl Richardson left at the end of 2013 and Ania Lorenz tendered her resignation early in the academic year. Both families no longer had children attending Little Grove Primary School. I was nominated and accepted the position as Chairperson at the first meeting and have enjoyed the role and the involvement with the school and other Board Members.
One of the big issues we had to address this year was the changeover to the new “Student Centred Fund-ing Model”. As with many political decisions it was marketed to sound good but it actually means a loss of funding for Little Grove. There will be challenges ahead for Darryn and the staff to find ways to cut down in areas in order to meet the new budget. The Board wrote to the Minister for Education, Mr Peter Collier, to register their disapproval but received only a polite reply and no promise of action.
On a positive note the Board was able to endorse the continuation of the Scholastic Book Club; approved the Annual Report; gained insight into “Whole School Approach” to spelling; discussed the “Kidsmatter” program; discussed the implications of the New Australian Curriculum being introduced and agreed to the school becoming involved in the “Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program”. I was lucky enough to help Room 7 prepare a delicious and healthy lunch with fresh ingredients and can only concur that this is a terrific program and contributes to the school program and overall development of the students.
Discussion of future school camps gave the Board an opportunity to examine its role. There was a lot of discussion around the issue but in the end the decision to include a camp lies with the classroom teacher not the School the Board or other committees.
Little Grove Primary School has been working towards improving communications with parent groups and community members and has put some new procedures in place which will facilitate this.
There were two vacancies on the Board that were advertised but received no applications. The composi-tion of the Board will be discussed again at the beginning of next year and I would encourage anyone who has an interest in the school to volunteer a relatively small amount of time to get involved.
