PRESIDENTS REPORT

It’s been a relatively quiet month for a change, but I still have quite a bit to report.

There was a little excitement when told we couldn’t use the clubrooms for the proposed Presentation Day, as the BMCC has an event on their calendar for that day. So, the new date for the Richard’s Run and Presentation Day is 10 June, here at the clubrooms, and the Brass Monkey Run has been pushed back a week to the 17 June, so please be aware of those changes, and tell anyone who isn’t here to-night.

At the last committee meeting, we finalised the design for the new trailer and the order has been placed with delivery in about 6 weeks.

We discussed the club finances at some length, centring on the fact that we are barely cover-ing our annual costs each year, and this year, our income will not cover our outgoings. As membership fees are our primary source of in-come, some action is clearly required.

I accept that a rise in membership fees is never going to be popular, but sometimes it is neces-sary to keep our heads above water.

We have just carried out a survey of our annu-al budget, to be introduced by Bert at the June general meeting, which clearly proves that our income will not cover our expenditure this year, with the last two financial years being very similar. With costs always rising and our outgoings, particularly the website costs and insurance cover getting more expensive, an increase in membership fees is inevitable. Since the last increase, our outgoings have in-creased significantly.

The committee is proposing an increase of $10 per membership to stay viable in the long term. This will be proposed at the July AGM.

Still about membership fees, I mentioned last month that your committee is looking at ways

to encourage all our members to pay their fees on time, instead of using the 3-month grace period.

We are proposing to make the due date for fees the 1st of October, giving members till the 31st of December to pay their fees, effectively the same 3-month period that has been in ex-istence for many years. The big difference is the fact that our treasurer and LLO will not have to spend the lead up to Christmas and New Year chasing people who have not yet paid.

The reporting date to the CMC for un-financial members is still 1st of January.

Anyone who has not paid their fees by 31st of December will cease to be a member of this club on that date, and that fact will be reported, as required by the CMC on the 1st of January.

If any such member wishes to re-join the club, they will have to apply in the normal manner, and the committee will decide if membership is to be granted.

To bring this about, a change to the Rules & By Laws will be necessary. Motions to this ef-fect will be an agenda item at the AGM.

The proposed changes are up on the website under the main heading Documents, as Pro-posed Rules July 2018, (Page 9, Para 12, sub para (5)), and Proposed By-Laws July 2018, Membership Fees, Para 4.

CAPTAINS REPORT 5/18

Busso Mid-week Run 4/5/18

Not a very promising day, weather man said 70% chance of rain which reflected on the number that turned up for the ride, “6” as it turned out we had no rain at all!

Terry 2 led the ride with me bringing up the rear, headed out Layman Rd, Tuart Dr,

5

Ludlow N Rd, Mallokup Rd, Roberts Rd, Bus-sell Hwy, Hasties Rd through to South Western Hwy to Boyanup for morning tea.

After morning tea of pies and coffee we head-ed home via Railway Rd Stirling Rd Ludlow N Rd, Tuart Dr, Layman Rd to Busselton.

A good ride and we didn’t lose any one this time. Peter Whiteside.

Mid-week PM Run 11/4/18. 25 Riders 3 Pas-sengers

Nice autumn weather today for 1st PM this year with a ride to Ha-Ve Cheese. Travelled thru Australind, Leschenault, Myalup, Uduc, then along Government Road to Hope Ave which unfortunately had a lot of pot holes which is ok on a bike but not a sidecar, so it seems.

Carty was very carefully dodging them while Christine in the sidecar was bearing the brunt of them so much so, she arrived at our destina-tion with a wardrobe malfunction.

After food, drink, and cheese tasting ride con-tinued along South West Hwy, Mornington Rd, Martin Rd, Sandalwood Rd to South West Hwy where riders took their own way home.

Glen Britza Run. 15/4/18. 23 Riders 4 Pas-sengers

Off to dry Ironstone Gully today for our 1st soup day, unfortunately I didn’t allow enough time to get there and heat everything up. How-ever, everyone was patient and we finally got everything working with hot soup & hot water for tea, coffee etc.

Thanks to Neville G. who cut his ride short to help John with the scanners and to Lyn and back-up Faye & Ross. Also, Frank who got the faulty stove going. Thanks to you all.

Busso Mid-week Run 18/4/18

The weather turned out OK as they forecast

70% rain for the day. Only 12 riders turned up for the ride and it was decided to go to Donny-brook.

We headed out Layman Rd, Tuart Dr, Ludlow N Rd, Mallokup Rd, Roberts Rd, Bussell Hwy, Boyanup W Rd, Sth Western Hwy to Donny-brook for morning tea.

After morning tea, the Bunbury boys headed straight home the rest headed down Goodwood Rd turning into the Capel Tutunup Rd, this is where it all went wrong! Tail End Charley told me that he would be stopping off at his friend’s place in Capel Tutunup Rd and I for-got (failed) to tell the group that he would be leaving the ride there.

When the riders realized he had disappeared not knowing he was leaving the ride, stopped and went back looking for him and me being out front stopped at the “T” road with John, he went back to where he last seen them and came back not finding them, John had to head off, so I waited for them.

When they didn’t turn up I went back to Good-wood Rd where I had last seen them, not find-ing them I went into Capel and still not finding them went straight home arriving about 12:30.

When I got home, Phil had a message on my phone, so I rang him, and he gave me the sto-ry. When they realized Terry was missing they went back, not finding him went into Capel thinking he might have gone in for fuel, not finding him went straight home leaving me in the lurch!

However, all’s good that ends good, we all got home safely and that what’s matters. It was a good ride and no rain. Peter Whiteside.

Mid-week AM Run 25/4/18. 25 Riders 4 Passengers

Being ANZAC Day and no shops open Terry offered to have morning tea today, Lyn, Faye Ross and I set off for Busselton

6

with the food while Neville G. lead the troops. I was a bit worried when realized we had 23 Bunbury coming and an unknown number of Busso’s whether we would have enough cur-ried egg sandwiches, BUT WE DID.

It was an amazing social morning with every-one really enjoying looking around and the ca-maraderie of the club.

Thanks to Terry & Rita for making everyone welcome, even though we forced them to eat the last of the food to save bringing it home. Also, to Faye, Ross, Lyn and Peter (the debt collector).

Mick Turner Run. 29/4/18

30 starters left Eaton and made their way through Treendale and Clifton Road to Bruns-wick. Steve was waiting at the end of Beela Road with smoko. Returned along Beela Road where Shaun the Sheep and his mates caused a few problems. On to Burekup and Ferguson Valley then back to Gelorup for refreshments.

Thank you to all who attended especially the gentlemen who came from Perth and Man-jimup to ride also to Wellsy for doing back up. Mick.

Don Collins Run. 6/5/18

This ride cancelled due to inclement weather, will be held later.

Richard Clark advised - The AGM is just 2 months away and we still need a couple more volunteers to fill committee positions. As usu-al, all positions become vacant and we are looking for one or two members to sit on the committee for the coming year. We have nomi-nations for several positions so we’re coming along quite nicely. If you’re interested, contact me or the secretary for more details.

Just a reminder about the date changes. The Richard’s Ride & Presentation Day is now on the 10 June, and the ride will start and finish here with lunch and the presentations right af-ter. The Brass Monkey Run is now on the 17 June, starting as usual from Pratt Rd, Eaton.

Michael Rock advised that Joe Zappa is a bit under the weather at present and that Derrick Gobby now has his cast off & a splint on

Colin Batley advised that he should have a personalised plate to suit a ’55 AJS available next week if someone wants it to contact him. Colin also men-tioned the “Bikeshed Times” as a possi-ble avenue for advertising bikes.
