“Together we learn and grow, beyond expectations, guided by our faith and values”

Our school Value for this term is:

Dear parents, our School Value this term is Respect. Please take a moment to read about how this Value will contribute to the

development of children in school.

Spiritual Jesus valued every person equally regardless of status, gender or wealth. He showed a particular bias to those who were poor, in need or

at the margins of society at that time. At our school we explore the Christian teaching that every child and adult is made in God's image and is

uniquely precious and worthy of respect and kindness.

Moral Following Jesus' teaching and attitude towards children, our school values every child equally and is proactive about ensuring that no

individual is disadvantaged or treated differently due to their social background, gender, sexual orientation or cultural or religious background.

We equip children with the skills to recognise prejudice in the media or in the political process. We encourage all within our community to learn

about and engage with our nation's democratic processes both locally and nationally to help to support, protect and sustain for the future the

respect due to every citizen.

Social As a community whose life is founded upon Christian values, we do not merely tolerate difference and diversity, we actively celebrate the

uniqueness of all individuals. Whilst it may not always be possible to respect the opinions of every member (e.g. if they are sexist, homophobic or

racist) we do respect the individual and their right to hold views that are different from our own.

Cultural As a Church of England school, we strive to create a culture that is characterised by openness, empathy and respect. We try to foster

humility and thankfulness in our relationships with one another and the natural world. We continually strive to improve our understanding of

different faiths and cultural diversity, celebrating the richness of experience and beliefs represented in British society.

Dear parents,

It has been lovely to welcome our children back to school and to hear about your Christmas holidays. I certainly enjoy being back in a

routine again and hope that the children feel the same. New Year Resolutions… if I could suggest that all children, reception to Year 6,

quickly return to their regular reading routine - it really does make a positive difference. By the end of year 4, all children should know

division and multiplication facts for facts up to 12 x 12. All classes will be learning multiplication over the next few weeks and if children can

already fluently recall appropriate times table facts, it makes such a difference in their overall learning. Songs, apps, posters are all readily

available and with regular practise this will hugely help your child.

Mrs Gray continues to work in Weavers class alongside myself and Mrs Cooper. Miss Ballinger has moved on to another placement. Next

week we welcome two more PGCE students for their week experience in a primary school setting.

The closing date for primary places is Wednesday next week – it has been so lovely to show many new families around our school as well as

welcoming siblings to our three ‘Stay and Play’ sessions.

Please remember that clubs start again next week – please do commit to these clubs if you have signed up. If your child can not attend then

please ensure you notify the adult in charge. There are a few spaces still free in some clubs; check in the office for spaces.

Next Tuesday our football team will be travelling to Stanley Park in Chippenham for their football finals. They are very excited to be

attending these and I am very excited to join them, Mr Crabbe and some parents to cheer them on from the sidelines – Good luck boys, we

are very proud of you. Remember Twitter will share up to date news of their progress.

Our Worship Table is draped in the white cloth for the season of Epiphany and is the time when Christians remember the Wise Men who

visited Jesus. On Thursday, Rev Pauline reminded us about the gifts that the Kings bought with them. She asked us what we would have

brought if we had visited the new King?

Please remember that if you have any concerns about your child, their learning, their well-being or their behaviour, please do speak to their

class teacher or if it is easier to myself so that it can be addressed promptly.

Happy New Year to you all!

Mrs Ilic

Learning Corner

Potters Thatchers Weighing station in class which has been very popular, helping us to estimate weights and measure with non standard units. New topic Out in the Cold, really enjoying finding out about Antarctica and the animals that love there. Creating shades of blue by mixing paint (very careful and controlled work!) Writing sentences and focusing on handwriting. New sounds write unit with all children doing brilliantly after Christmas break!

The children had a fantastic time at Liberty Gymnastics this week.

It was a very active session and the children are already learning

how to vault and forward-roll along a beam! We can’t wait to see

what they’ll learn next. In maths this week, the children practised

adding and subtracting by counting on and back. They will begin

to add using mental methods next week so please keep practising

those number bonds at home.

It is so lovely to see you all back at school. We have enjoyed

talking about our Christmas holidays, ready to write a recount.

Spelling passports have been introduced - these will be in reading

records soon. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and

perseverance at Liberty gymnastic centre on Wednesday.

Yesterday, the children had a Computing focus day exploring

algorithms - that's a tricky word!

Weavers Foresters Our new topic is Ancient Egypt. In maths we have started our new times table assessment… we need to know our times tables ‘inside out and back to front’ so its not just 7 x 2 = ___ that we need to know but also ___ ÷ 7 = 2 or 2 x ___ = 14 etc As much practise of these as possible will help secure all times table facts up to 12 x 12 = 144. The weather changed quickly on Thursday so PE was table tennis indoors; however we have also identified a PE challenge to work on over the next few weeks.

We have started our new topic this week: Greece. We

learnt 'The Dreadful Menace' poem in English; a poem

written about Boreas, the Greek god of wind and snow.

We wrote our own inspired poems about a Greek god of

our choice. In Maths, year sixes have been revising

decimals and year fives have begun their unit on

multiplication. In history, we discovered what life was like

for citizens living in Ancient Greece and during PSHE, we

explored our 'Be Safe' and 'Be responsible' value by

learning about how to keep our money safe and how to

avoid scams. Look out for some of our posters on this at a

later date!
