We are delighted to report that this week Miss Chastney was awarded the title of Primary School Teacher of the Year for the Maidstone area. Parents of pupils were asked to write in to the Kent Messenger telling them why they thought their child’s teacher was the best of the best. In the nominations the judges heard about Miss Chastney’s smile, positivity and very high standards. They were also told how she does excellent work not just at Thurnham School but also visiting other schools to help their teachers improve. Mr James told our newspaper "We are thrilled with Miss Chastney winning the Kent Messenger award for " Teacher Of The Year 2015" in our area. Everyone at Thurnham School is delighted and very proud of her. We are also very grateful to the parents who took the time to nominate Miss Chastney - we're sure they will be delighted for her too!"
MISS CHASTNEY IS NAMED PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR
In Silver Class this term we have been studying Africa and enjoyed our Safari in the outside area, mud painting and reading the book “Handa’s Surprise.” We tasted exotic fruit such as pineapple, avocado, mango and passion fruit and we made ndebele art to learn about patterns. In maths we have been learning how to double and share. But the very best part of this term has been welcoming Mrs Beverley back to Silver Class.
Thurnham School House Cup
The cups are ready but are you? We will be starting our House point challenge when we come back to school in Term 6 and we now know if we are in St George’s House, St David’s House, St Andrew’s House and St Patrick’s House. As well as the Sports Cup which will be awarded to the House with the most points on Sports Day we also have the House Cup which will be handed out each week to the House who have collected the most House
points. A big thank to Aford Awards who have kindly sponsored both of these awards and we know everybody will want to give their best efforts to help their House win these cups. Our first competition will be the MegaHowler throw so start practising your throwing during the school holidays to see how far you can through the MegaHowler on the day. As well as
challenges like this you can also collect House points each day in class for good work, good behavior and good manners. So lets start collecting lots of House points and lets see who can be the winner of the first House of the Week.
What do you dislike? I don’t like it when people jump the queue because its not very fair, is it?
What do you like to do in your spare time? I really enjoy playing with my grandchildren and I like to watch the birds and wildlife that visit my garden. Sometimes I can spot foxes, pheasants, rabbits and owls. I also enjoy football, in small doses, and support Manchester United.
What superhero power would you like.? I know everyone says they would like to fly but I would really love that because for once I’d be up high and be able to look down on taller people.
What is your favourite movie? The original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Finally, please share with us something we don’t already know about you. When I was younger I used to be a 100m sprinter and I also represented my county throwing the discus.

Thurnham School News Sports Editor, Thomas, with the winner’s cup and shield
Maidstone Manager, Jay Saunders and midfielder Jack Parkinson from Maidstone United visited Thurnham School this term to tell us all about their very successful season and how they became Champions of the Ryman Premier League. They brought along the huge shield and cup that their team had won to show everyone and answered from some very tricky questions from the classes about teams they have played against, exercising and how to always eat well.
