Best Practice Needs for Science Student Success

Students should be scheduled into a Lab for authentic laboratory experience- Exemplar Labs

Have the learning objective for the day clearly displayed to be used as a focus for instruction

Follow the Scope and Sequence and Lesson Frameworks with Fidelity

Utilize your common planning time for subject/ grade level teachers to coordinate with each other

Attend all campus and district science meetings and schedule a time to share the information with the rest of the appropriate teachers

Ensure Investigations are occurring as well as activities to insure that students are learning all aspects of the TEKS

Middle SchoolSix Weeks Grades

Middle School• Major Assessments (50%)– Minimum of 4 assessments (1 may be a major project)– Semester Exams are not included

• Daily Grades (50%)– Minimum of 6 daily grades

• By the end of the 3rd week, a minimum of 2 Major Assessments and 3 daily grades will be documented

Recommended Homework Breakdown

Middle School - 70 up to 80 minutes each night • Reading/English/Writing 25–30 minutes 3–5 times a

week • Science 20–25 minutes 2–3 times a week • Math 20–25 minutes 4 times a week • Social Studies 20–25 minutes 2–3 times a week

Middle School STEM

2400 MS STEM students (up from 2199)Students must be enrolled in a STEM science

and STEM math course or Algebra course.(Students considering STAMP must successfully

complete Algebra course in 8th grade)4 Project-based learning experiences

throughout the year that follow the district scope and sequence for math and science.

(The PBLs are noted on the Scope and Sequence and in the Frameworks.)
