Message from

the HeadmasterScholarship students add energy, drive, and a sense of commitment to a school, and those are qualities teachers and school managers always like to see on campus. As such, ISV has a scholarship policy without a set number of places or a set budget: as long as there are places available in a class, we will seek to fill those places with scholarship students. That sounds too good to be true: what’s the catch? Only two: the student has got to prove they are worthy of a scholarship, and then improve on that standard to maintain the scholarship. If you feel up to the challenge, please read on and find the scholarship programme that best fits your skill-set and age.

Over

view

The ISV Scholarship Programme was developed in recognition of excel-lence in academic study, the arts or sports. It is committed to providing equal opportunities to both external and internal students, regardless of student backgrounds or nationalities. For many of our scholars, a scholar-ship provides a route to securing significant financial support that enables them to have access to an outstanding academic education, and all the benefits of belonging to a diverse and supportive community.

Since its launch in the 2016-17 academic year, the programme has continued to build a strong network of enthusiasts who are unique in their interests but alike in their commitment to excellence. Recipients of ISV Scholarships have made positive changes and significant impact in the development of the student body and the whole-school through their outstanding performance at school, as well as the inspiration and energy they create. Thanks to its great impact on the diversity of our community, enrichment of our existing students and reinforcement of our founding principle, the Scholarship Programme has been embraced as an integral part of ISV culture and tradition.

Ranging from the prestigious academic scholarship to various awards for merits achieved in the Arts or sports, the ISV Scholarship Programme has been attracting a significant number of brilliant young people to apply. Among those, more than 80 outstanding individuals have been selected so far, with the total scholarship amount awarded to date reaching $ 2,200,000.

The door to scholarships at ISV is always open to those who would enjoy the challenge of striving for excellence, playing a role in our scholarly community and carrying the school's tradition and values forward.

Our range of programmes and options offers flexible and personalised assistance to students with different interests, abilities, and experiences.

Highly selective

Wide range of choices

Thanks to stable funding from investors, as well as the school, the number of scholarships is unlimited for each academic year. As long as there are still vacancies in the class, students can apply for our scholarship programme.

ISV selects prospective students to receive merit-based scholarship awards based on their highly competitive academic performance and demonstrated ability through our scholarship assessment. Our assessment system ensures a fair and organised scholarship process that determines the appropriate amount of scholar-ship each applicant deserves, which typically ranges from 50% to a full (100%) tuition award.

We are keen to see all our current scholarship students continue to prosper while studying at ISV. Hence, it is important for us to provide the best support to maintain the continuation of scholarships for our students until graduation. Scholarship grants are usually available for all the years of each academic programme. At the end of each programme, continuation of the scholarship will be reviewed for the next programme, based on the student's school reports and/or test scores.

MEET OUR SCHOLARS

I have studied at ISV for three years, and 2019 will be my fourth one. Attending ISV was one of the boldest decisions that I have ever made. When a friend of mine introduced me to the scholarship opportunity, I, without any preparation, enrolled and became one of the few who succeeded. Moving from a traditional Vietnamese school’s environment, I was amazed by ISV at first glance. The teachers come from all around the globe, each with different backgrounds and experiences, for which they are able to integrate into the lessons. The scholarship also gives me access to the International Baccalaureate program, which I believe has aided significantly in developing my potentials to the fullest. Aside from academic concerns, my physicality is improved through the use of the school's facilities like a gym, a basketball court, and a football field. Moreover, ISV competes locally in the HAC tournament for basketball and football, allowing me to challenge myself in official competitions. Furthermore, ISV's variety of ECAs (extracurricular activities) takes place after school and isn’t limited to any specific subject ranging from animation, band to floorball. If you don’t like to take part in any ECAs that the school have, then you can take the initiative, like me, and create one. I, along with my friends, established an ECA where we introduced grade 1 students to many scientific but creative and fun experiments. I have become healthier, happier, and more knowledgeable ever since I joined ISV. All of this amazing experience wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t apply for the ISV scholarship.Kiet Tuan Tran NGUYEN

Grade 12 (2019-20)

It would not be an overstatement saying that studying at ISV was one of my life-changing decisions. Being a normal Vietnamese girl who has been attending a normal public institution, an international school has never occurred to me considering its unaffordability and irregularity. I would have been like most students in Hanoi, drowning in numerous extra classes just to shove myself into the gates of some privilege specialized schools if it wasn’t for ISV Scholarship program. The scholarship not only eased the financial burden but also proposed an alternative option for my high school education. I find it absurd and wrongful that the common notation is international schools being only for rich kids who never study and dissipate their parents’ money. It is true that most students here come from a good background and it is true that we don’t study like the way normal schools do; however, there is no doubt that we have been provided with one of the best environment with genuine learning, balance school life and friendly acquaintance. Despite there still being some additional cost, the school has always remained active and engaging for students with various opportunities for individual develop-ment and collaboration in any fields of interests from academic, sports to arts. I always joke that because of ISV, I have never graduated middle school in Vietnam, but I would never regret choosing ISV as my next stop because it was here that I understood the true meaning of studying, embraced an open mind to the world and found a new family.

MEET OUR SCHOLARSIt has always been my dream to study in English ever since I studied in Charlotte, North Carolina for five weeks when I was in grade four. When I earned a scholarship from ISV, I was thrilled to finally embrace my dream. It was not easy at first, though. Being in an international environment was new to me, and the language barrier was quite high. However, growing to ISV with close friends who are now like my family was a valuable journey that I am proud of. From friends, I would catch repeatedly used phrases and learn the languages and culture naturally. Three years in ISV helped me to speak different languages, not only English but also few other second languages, through being able to use them regularly in lessons and at corridors. Not only that, I had various opportunities in ISV to become a balanced learner. I could join varsity basketball and soccer teams where I made close friends and I could sing and play music at school events every year. I could also organize a student-led project which let younger students in our school to learn Korean and Vietnamese Lunar New Year festival culture, I could have my artworks displayed in a group exhibition at school from time to time, and even more! I enjoyed exploring different things in school through which I found my interests. I am glad that I joined ISV which helped me to prepare for my next step towards a bigger and broader world!

Renee Songhee KIM Grade 12 (2019-20)

Being in ISV gave me the opportunity to study an internationally acclaimed curriculum and earn a qualification that is recognized globally. Through the Cambridge International A Levels qualification, not only was I able to apply to all of my chosen universities confidently, I also learned many transferable skills that I could easily apply to other areas of my life. I was also encouraged to be an independent student who is responsible for my own studying, which I think is excellent preparation for university. ISV also fosters a strong sense of community in the students, offering me the chance to be actively involved in many extracurricular activities through the ease of setting up student-led organizations. The facilities and equipment are also adequate and available for student use accordingly. In ISV, there is no limit as to what type of activity you can do, or what leadership position is available, or the extent of the impact of your work. If you can dream it, you can do it. For high school students, especially, ISV has an exceptionally thorough and dedicated university counseling program. Through the university counseling classes and one-on-one sessions with my counselor, I went from completely clueless about what I want to do after high school to being accepted into a university in the United States with a scholar-ship that meets my full financial need. I would never be where I am today without ISV. Being in the ISV Scholarship Program has allowed me to access all of the necessary resources mentioned above to be successful in my academics. I believe I owe a lot of this success to my teachers, my university counselor, and ISV.

MEET OUR SCHOLARSLast year, I was accepted to ISV with a scholarship award in Grade 6S – Academic & Talent Programme. When I heard this news, I was very excited. Getting a scholarship was a chance for me to study at ISV: the school that I had always dreamt to study. ISV is a wonderful school where I can meet many friendly teachers, who help me to develop my knowl-edge and skills, and delivered amazing lessons in Maths, English, Science, Humanities, Music and many other subjects. Physical Education is also one of my favorite subjects that offers various sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, all of which help me to stay fit and healthy. Apart from the academia, I enjoy all the events at school such as the Winter Bazaar, Swimming Gala and International Day. What impressed me the most is the camping trip in November 2018, which gave me the opportunity to experience new activities like mountain climbing, hiking and astronomy lessons. After one year, I have already learned a lot of things and had many good memories at ISV. I love the school so much and I hope that in the future, I will get a higher scholarship to continue my studies at this wonderful school.

Linh Trang LE Grade 7S (2019-20)

I will never forget the day when I received my IGCSE results. It was a sunny Tuesday when I could finally access the website. Still trembling out of anxiety, I saw my results appearing on the screen: English (0508) - First language: A*. Honestly, I still couldn't believe that I had got the highest band for the subject that I struggled with the most. For me, IGCSE was indeed rigorous, but thanks to my amazingly conscientious teachers and very amiable friends, it seems much less scary. Studying with ISV allowed me to develop to the fullest, both physically and academically. By joining various projects and events, I gained many experiences which nurtured me to be the best version of myself. One thing that I value the most is the intellectual attitude and effort people put into learning. The teachers are always keeping me on track and checking my progress to ensure we are moving forward. They are willing to answer my questions whenever they could, thus this has benefited my learning very much. One more thing that makes ISV stands out is its hospitality. I was astound-ed by the immense love and affection given by everyone, from the nurse to the lady in the cafeteria. I befriended with some incredible people that I could never meet otherwise, and they had contributed a lot to my scholarship reward. These past two years have been a tremendous help towards my development as a person. I can't wait to continue my learning journey with ISV.

IGCSE RESULTS 2019

ISV students have achieved outstanding results in the IGCSE exam 2019. This is truly a source of pride and a worthy award for the tremendous efforts of students and teachers. For students who have done Grade 9 & 10 and completed the IGCSE exams, ISV has been looking at the best way to award scholarships in Grade 11. Based on the IGCSE exam results, a matrix has been developed to convert the IGCSE grade scored into the value of scholarship offered. For students taking Vietnamese, the in-house Vietnamese exam will have the same grading system as the IGCSEs and count towards the points system. Below are two grids. The first grid shows the points value of each IGCSE score. The second grid shows the value of a scholarship based on the total number of IGCSE points scored.

As IGCSE is a two-year curriculum (G9 & 10), and 60% of the curricu-lum has been taught in Grade 9, students who join Grade 10 (the second year of course), are not likely to gain sufficient knowledge for the IGCSE exams at the end of Grade 10. As a result, since 2018-19 academic year, we have started a one-year course in Grade 10 that is designed to allow the student to sit some IGCSE exams (e.g. Maths and English) but mainly to teach them the skills required in the IBDP course starting in Grade 11. The Pre-DP Scholarship Programme has been established with the aim to attract high-achieving students to our Pre-DP course, who also demonstrate strong potential for our challenging IBDP programme further in Grade 11 & 12. Similarly to the IGCSE scholarship, this programme’s focus is entirely on student’s academic performance. The Scholarship value is UP TO 100% for one year of the Pre-DP programme (Grade 10) & two years of the IB DP programme (Grade 11, 12).

Students will not take the full IGCSE examinations at the end of Grade 10 (for 8 subjects) but only for English & Maths. The goal for this course is to give the best preparation for their further education in G11. In Grade 10, students are given a range of options (or electives) for their subjects. As a result, most students will study eight subjects, including PE. Of these subjects, four are option choices.

The scholarship is valid until the end of its relevant programme, however, it is subjected to review at the end of each school year. Based on the student's academic performance, an increase or decrease in the amount awarded might be reconsidered.

Scholarship covers Tuition Fee only, NOT INCLUDING compulsory fees such as: applica-tion fee, enrolment fee, security deposit, development fee and the compulsory residential field trip. Other fees are also not covered such as: bus, snack & lunch, retest fee, late pickup fee and miscellaneous expenses.

Scholarship amount awarded is decided based on student's performance in the scholar-ship assessment including written tests, interviews, talent assessment (if applicable) and finally at the discretion of the Board.

Within 01 week from the date the scholarship application checklist is completed, a date for the scholarship assessment shall be arranged.

When the scholarship offer is accepted by the family, the application then proceeds to enrolment, similarly to what happens with regular applications. During enrolment, tuition fees, bus transport & lunch options and other documents will be required to secure the placement, which normally takes one week to complete.

If the student meets the minimum academic requirements to enter their appropriate grade level, they will be offered a place with a full payment required. However, they are encour-aged to reapply for scholarship at any time throughout their years at ISV as long as there is an available scholarship programme for their grade level. ISV has seen an increasing number of successful transitions from regular programmes to scholarship programmes in the recent years, as our curriculum and learning environment helps each student build a stronger academic foundation and confidence.
