INTRODUCTION
Definition of IT:
• Information Technology is technology used to store, manipulate, distribute or create information.
• It also mean the tools we use to perform calculations, to store & manipulate text & to communicate.
• For examples in 20th century tools includes calculators for mathematical calculation, telephone, radio for communication. Typewriter & word processors for processing text.
Definition of Society:
A community, nation, or broad grouping of people having common traditions, institutions, & collective activities and interest
IMPACT ON GOVERNMENT
• IT helped Govt. to improve their service to citizens
• IT enable the Govt. of various countries to collate and monitor statistical information that they combat fraud, manage the economy
• IT also had a major impact on the governments defence capabilities & intelligence agencies
• Encryption of sensitive information has enabled governments to obtain added security

The united kingdoms data protection act of 1998 gives the following eight rules regarding personal information

commercial benefit to the business.
• The use of information technologies can also increase the
businesses income through advertising in the various available forums.
• E-business: The use of the Internet has grown significantly in
private practice surveying firms in recent years. For e.g. Property dealing
on internet, online trading, internet marketing etc.
IT IMPACT ON HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
• "The National Institutes of Health" in Bethesda Maryland, welcome to use their website to learn about any medical aspect that are required by patients.
• E-Prescribing- This systems allow physicians to enter prescription data for patients into an electronic system, which can help them prevent prescribing errors, adhere to treatment guidelines, and monitor patients’ responses to treatment.
• Privacy Issues: Privacy has emerged as a top concern regarding the broad adoption of health IT among the public. Many are worried about insufficient data security and the possibility of inappropriate access to medical records.
• Personal Health Records: using tools such as personal health records (PHRs), which allow individuals to collect, view, manage, or share their health information electronically.
E-POWERMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
• Iridium Interactive Ltd. has been instrumental in promoting ‘web accessibility’ to visually impaired and motor disabled people, thereby enabling them to access technology and information related products through the use of Internet.
• The company is involved in creating awareness generation amongst website owners (Government and private) on the need to make sites accessible to disabled users and also promoting internet usage within the disabled sections of the society.
• It has helped almost 5,000 disabled people to get certificates issued by Government as recognition of a disabled person, by co-ordinating with State Governments, Local Governments, Transport Authorities, Medical personnel, etc.
• The company has also helped in making various websites (dealing in employment, transport and travel, education and e-banking) user friendly for people with disabilities, thereby promoting equal opportunities for disabled people.

• Textless User Interface- Being developed by Microsoft Labs for enabling illiterate people to use visual language.
• Chess software for visually impaired- Developed by GTL for catering to the requirements of the visually impaired.
• ATM Software- Developed by HCL for helping the deaf and blind operate
SOCIAL IMPACT OF IT
Due to development of IT:-Interaction between individuals have been enhanced.
-New channels of communication have been opened between people.
-Individuals can interact with other individuals through different
developments like
1) E-mail
2) Chat rooms
3) Video conferencing
CONCLUSION
• The aim of this presentation is to understand what is IT & how developments in IT have an influence on the way we work and on society in general.
• The topics covered under it are impact of IT on the Govt., Commercial businesses, news & media, Education, health care system and Social.
• It has been shown that the developments in IT have had an impact on general society perception of information.
