think everyone has an identity crisis at some point in his or her life. For a lot of people, that time is during their years in college.

I am wrapping up my junior year of college, and am quickly realizing that in a year from now, there is a good chance I will be working at a 9-to-5 job, in an office. This means I will no longer get the opportunity to wake up in the morning and decide what I want to wear, how I want to wear it, or who I want to be that day. You get some choice in the color of your suit, or the accessories that you pair, but the end result is fairly similar.

At this point in my life, the world is completely open, with absolutely no restrictions. Whether I want to wear hippie sunglasses, or sit on the quad in a bikini, there isn’t anyone telling me that I can’t.

In a lot of ways, this issue of It Magazine really encapsulates this idea. Through our photo shoots, the creative directors, myself including, get to imagine a new world, and create characters in it. I dreamt up the concept of a 60s, Twiggy inspired persona living in DC during the cherry blossom season.

What’s even better? This world came to life in this photo shoot.

I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t love Halloween, ever since we were kids we have taken advantage of the one day (or entire weekend in college) that we

get to become someone new. However, as we have gotten older, we take every opportunity thrown our way to dress up as a new character.

College students have the opportunity to dress up constantly. Theme parties every weekend, and formal events throughout the semester. There are even scattered events that call for a certain “uniform”.

My daily uniform consists of jeans, a sweater, and ankle boots. But if I were attending Coachella, I’d be decked out

in a flower crown and crochet top. I’d even try out flash tattoos. If I were going to the Kentucky Derby, I’d pretend for the day that I am preppy and wear a Lilly Pulitzer dress and monogram everything.

Some people might say that makes me fake, but I just say that I am having an identity crisis. I’ve gone through an Avril Lavigne phase, a Jeffrey Campbell loving phase, and there was even a time that I was convinced I was meant to live in the South. Just because I haven’t fully decided which look works for me, doesn’t mean

that I didn’t think I was being “me” at the time.

Let’s face it; I like standing at my closet every morning and being able to choose who I am going to be that day. And before I am stuck in a daily work uniform, why shouldn’t I have that choice?

They are everywhere you look. They travel in packs, congregating at Starbucks, Forever XXI and H&M. They drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes and drop iPhones. They are responsible for making Pinterest a thing.

They make up approximately 80% of sorority members and 90% of cheerleaders. They go by many names. Some call them “basic bitches”, some call them “common white girls”. In the 90s, the angsty teen protagonists of everyone’s favorite books and movies called them “preps”.

In my circle, however, they are known as biddies. A biddie, in short, is just a girl who follows the current trends. Whenever a cynical high school loner who sits at the nerd’s table says she’s “not like those other girls”, these are the other girls she’s talking about.

Is there anything wrong with being a biddie? Not really. Am I going to make fun of them anyway? Absolutely, let’s get started. Biddie outfits are largely dependent on the seasons, so the out-fits below have been organized as such.

STEAL THEIR LOOKBIDDIE EDITION

FALL: Fall is a great time of year. The beautiful colors, the mild temperatures, and teenage girls dressing like Han Solo.

Admit it, the combo of that black North Face down vest (Patagonia also acceptable) with that loose-fitting long-sleeve blouse and black leggings call to mind images of none other than everyone’s favorite Harrison Ford character. Star Wars jokes aside, the fall biddie uniform is actually quite utilitarian.

Leggings and down vests are both known for their comfort and warmth. The boots aren’t anything fancy either, just simple and comfortable. Perhaps all us jaded hipsters could learn a thing or two from the biddie crowd about balancing comfort with style in a simple yet effective way. Or we could continue to bitch about their tastes in coffee. That’s also an option.

NOTES: No biddie outfit is complete without an appropriate iPhone case. As fall is a good time for deep emotional introspection, it makes the most sense to sport

a galaxy print case, preferably one with something like “love” or the infinity symbol on it. That shit’s as deep as it gets.

BONUS: For bonus biddie points and additional warmth, replace the generic brown boots with Uggs and throw on an infinity scarf. Then all you have to do is swap out the down vest for a down jacket (which, again, MUST be Patagonia or North Face) and BOOM! You’ve got yourself a winter biddie outfit.

SPRING: After spending the winter bundled up in the bonus outfit, every spring, biddies emerge from their long hibernation period and change the theme of their outfit from Han Solo to flowers.

Seems like a natural transition if you ask me. The floral dress in this outfit can honestly be almost any color you want, though it should be noted that a lighter colored dress warrants a darker colored denim jacket. I suppose you could wear a denim vest with this outfit, but I assume that if you’re dressing

SUMMER: Summer is a time for barbeques, parties, hanging with friends and unapologetic patriotism expressed with varying levels of irony. Whether you’re pre-gaming on Grey Goose so that you’ll be ready to go when the time comes to punch a bitch out to get to the front of the crowd at a Lana Del Rey concert, or celebrating the 4th of July three months in a row because you just love America that much, this outfit has everything you need.

The high-waisted shorts/crop top combo (again, so in right now) just screams summer fun. Plus, all you have to do is replace the crop top (which one could argue in this example is really more of a bralette, but that’s aside the point) with a bikini top and wear the bottoms under the shorts and you’ve got yourself a killer beach outfit! As for the flower crown, biddies get out of school over the summer (again, assuming you’re all in high school), which means they have a LOT more time to spend on tumblr.

Biddie tumblr, for whatever reason, really likes hippies, and as such has adopted a few mainstays of hippie culture, such as head flowers,

Native-American-inspired designs and weed. The only thing biddie tumblr hasn’t taken from hippies is their passion for civil rights and love of communism. That’s the rest of tumblr’s territory.

NOTES: As previously mentioned, summer biddies love American flags and Native-American-inspired designs (usually erroneously referred to as “Navaho print”) so why not throw them together into an iPhone case! There’s probably some good metaphors about American identity and the plight of indigenous peoples here, but this is an end note and I’m running out of space to bitch about tumblr.

BONUS: For extra biddie points, go see the Zac Brown Band in this outfit. Biddies love Zac Brown Band.

like a biddie you need to keep your shoulders covered up for your school’s dress code. I’m just assuming you’re in high school because you’re trying to dress like a biddie.

Anyway, it should be noted that a flat sandal, as opposed to a small heel, is the only appropriate shoe for this outfit, as anything else would prevent one from High School Musical jumping, which I assume is what biddies do any time something good happens to them.

NOTES: Sticking with the “April showers bring May floral prints” theme the iPhone case for this outfit is also covered in flowers. It’s not exactly necessary that the flowers be pink, but I can’t think of what the fuck other color they should be.

BONUS: For bonus biddie points, replace the mini dress with a crop-top/maxi skirt combo, one of which is floral. Maxi skirts are so in right now.

QGIRLS vs GUYS

Why do girls carry such massive purses?

Why do girls change so many times before going out?

Why do girls never say what they actually mean?

Why do girls ask questions they already know the answers to?

“Women need a purse to hold everything for any possible occasion that may arise. I can tell you from personal experience, there is nothing worse then having a chipped nail and being without a nail file.”

“Because I am a woman, and it’s my prerogative to change my mind.”

“Why do girls never say what they mean? What do you mean?”

“I think the real problem here is why aren’t guys sticking to the script that I have planned for them?”

Why do guys never remember to put the toilet seat down?

Why do guys always feel the need to fix things?

Why do guys insist on open communication, but then want to avoid talks?

Why do guys never want to ask for directions?

“Because you know the next guy will be too lazy to put it up and will pee all over it.”

“It’s kind of a personal challenge to see what I can do to fix something that isn’t working, and then when I can’t figure out how to fix it, it’s usually annoying and makes me want to fix it more.”

“Open communication is what every guy wants because theoretically it makes girls easier to understand. But we avoid it like the plague because we’re completely horrible at it ourselves.”

“Because we live in the 21st century and have Google Maps.”

We gave our readers the chance to tell us the things they don’t understand about guys and girls, and then went to our experts to defend themselves. Here’s what they had to say!
