For weeks Americans have been saying: ‘If the Germans sink any big liner you will see an overwhelming storm of hostility to them in this country.’ Today it is conceded that the crucial point is, were any American lives lost? If American lives have been lost,

then German Empire must answer for its actions and whatever consequences thatwill follow.

It is unknown yet whether the United States of America will respond with force and allydirectly with Great Britain, or whether it willtake a more diplomatic stance and aid Germany’s opponents instead of directlyintervening in the World War. The decision weighs heavily on the discovery of American deaths at the hands of the German forces. Even now, the public is enraged at the very notion of casualties caused by the Germans.

The world awaits.
