The risk management degree offers students the knowledge, concepts, activities and applications, which reinforce the four primary management functions of planning, organizing, controlling and leading. Emphasis is on identifying and assessing a risk and determining ways of controlling, minimizing, reducing, and/or avoiding the risk. Regardless of the industry, companies have to be prepared to deal with risk factors at all times. Students will be able to complete the HCC Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Risk Management in two years (four semesters) with coursework available online.

RM 100: Security and Loss Prevention I (3)This course gives an overview of security and loss prevention and focuses primarily on loss problems and countermeasures thatprotectagainstcrimes,firesandaccidents.

RM 110: Risk Assessment (3)This course provides an overview of the risk assessment process, including the loss exposures that organizations face and quantitative foundations needed to gauge the importance and predict the effect of loss exposures.

RM 111: Investigations in the Workplace (3) This course focuses on the investigative process and explores the methodology, rationale and practices involved in effective workplace investigations.

RM 112: Security and Loss Prevention II (3) This course provides students with security and loss prevention challengesassociatedwithfourteenidentifiedareasandindustries. The primary focus of the course is to explore loss problems and those countermeasures that protect against crimes,fires,andaccidents.

RM 114: Risk Control (3)This course provides an overview of the risk control process, including the techniques and measures available to control the risks from property, personnel, liability and net income loss exposures.

RM 115: Prevention and Assessment of Workplace Violence (3)This course provides basic knowledge prevention and assessment principles of workplace violence.

RM 116: Safety I (3) This course gives an overview of risk management professionals’ safety responsibilities. It is intended for general industryprofessionals,whichincludesofficers,retailers,manufacturers and industrial facilities that do not have special technical safety concerns.

RM 117: Foundations of Information Systems Security and Loss Prevention (3)This course offers an overview of information systems security and focuses primarily on how to establish and manage an information protection program.

RM 200: Risk Finance (3)Thiscoursefocusesontheriskfinancingprocess,includingavailabletechniquesandmeasurestofinancerisks from property, personnel, liability and net income loss exposures.

RM 201: Safety II (3)This course provides advanced knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA)regulations,firesafety and prevention, emergency medical procedures and emergency planning.

RM 202: Risk Communication (3)This course provides an overview of the risk communication process with emphasis placed on the care, consensus and crisis communication as it relates to environmental, safety and health issues.

RM 204: Risk Quality (3)This course provides basic knowledge of risk quality principles, including continuous improvement tools, satisfying internal customers, meeting and team development and management, problem solving, survey development,cost/benefitanalysis,andaudittechniques.
