Purpose of ITA’s Review
Review ITA Youth Programs and
identify program enhancements to
increase youth continuation in
apprenticeship following high school
graduation
![Page 6: ITA Youth Program Update Youth Day Fin… · •Launch date: January 2013 ITA Youth Department Update 22 . Mentorship: Who can be involved? •Mentors: • 3rd or 4th year apprentice](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022071419/6117e1ae464bc303253ddca5/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Review Methodology
1. Review outcomes from ITA Youth Trades Programs
2. Assess best practices from literature and other
jurisdictions
3. Consult all stakeholder groups:
• 900+ survey respondents, including 600+ employers
• 40+ interview participants
• 55+ focus group participants in 5 regions
• 120+ ITA Youth Day participants
![Page 7: ITA Youth Program Update Youth Day Fin… · •Launch date: January 2013 ITA Youth Department Update 22 . Mentorship: Who can be involved? •Mentors: • 3rd or 4th year apprentice](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022071419/6117e1ae464bc303253ddca5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Youth Program Outcomes:
• Students that complete both ACE IT & SSA: – Double their chances of continuing into apprenticeship
– Double their chances of receiving their C of Q
• Of those who continue into apprenticeship, most go on within two years but some begin technical training as much as seven years later
• Continuation and pass/failure rates vary significantly by trade

ACE-IT Best Practice Guide
Preliminary Findings:
• Encourage post-secondary institutions to to reserve seats for ACE-IT students in high-demand trades.
• Encourage school districts to divert students to post-secondary institutions if this is an option.
• Where delivering the program solely at a post-secondary institution is not an option, encourage secondary schools and post-secondary institutions to develop hybrid models or share instruction.
• Encourage ACE-IT training providers to deliver the program on a block basis (e.g. 4 days per week) rather than part time (pass rates increase).
• Enhanced selection criteria.
