Italia Performing Arts has

brought a new concept of a

dance studio to the Winchester,

Virginia area. Miss Lorenza, the

founder and principal, chose an

Italian theme for the studio,

reflecting the culture and

refinement of her native Italy,

the homeland of Romantic ballet.

She is convinced that dance and

other performing arts flourish

best in the right environment. So

she has designed her studio in

the best European style, blending

the elegance of the Romantic era

with modern elements. The main

studio area features a full length

mural, painted by professional

artists, based on the ballerina

pictures of the impressionist

painter Degas. The reception

area is enhanced by a bronze

copy of Degas’s famous statue of

a 14-year-old ballet dancer.

Ballet (Cecchetti method)

Lorenza Manara Marchi is the School Principal and

head teacher of the Ballet department. She

specializes in classical ballet according to the Italian

Cecchetti method, which she studied in Italy and in

England. She invites children from age 3 up, teens

and adults to sign up for ballet classes. She focuses

on developing her students’ dance technique and

artistry, from which she builds performance skills.

Miss Lorenza was born and grew up in Florence,

Italy. She and her British husband Peter moved to

the USA in 2012 to set up her dance studio. She is a

qualified ballet teacher,

holding the DDI and DDE in

the Cecchetti method from

the Imperial Society of

Teachers of Dancing and the

Licentiate of the Cecchetti

Council of America.

Hip-Hop

Our hip-hop dance classes, for children age 7 and up

and teens, teach this funky style of dance. Students

learn the fundamentals of the style such as

isolations and flexibility. This class encourages

students to dance outside of the box and bring their

own personality to each movement. As a family

oriented dance studio we are careful to find suitable

clean music and avoid inappropriate moves.

Tap

Our tap classes for children age 3-11 give them the

ability to learn tap, combining dance with rhythmic

foot patterns for a fun and challenging class.

Gina Lewis teaches

dancing since her

beating. Her love of

dance has led her

to many dance

studios; however,

she has found her

home at Italia

Performing Arts.

Ballet/Pilates Combo

If you danced as a child, or always wanted to, it is

not too late to put the art of dance back into your

movements. Miss Lorenza, who has qualified as a

Pilates instructor as well as a ballet teacher, offers

this unique class for adults combining ballet and

Pilates movements, for fitness, flexibility and fun.

Irish Dance

A network of Irish dancers and

their teachers span the globe,

regularly meeting to compete,

share knowledge and enjoy

this rich culture.

Timing and rhythm are of utmost importance in Irish

dancing. It is the intricate and fast paced footwork

that has captured the imagination of the world. This

mixture of rhythmic footwork and lively music is

sure to set toes tapping, wherever they are heard!

Italia Performing Arts offers

Irish dance classes for

beginners age 5+, advanced

beginners, intermediate

students, and adults.

Sarah Armstrong teaches Irish

Dance at Italia Performing Arts,

and is a trainee teacher of

ballet.

Sarah hopes to qualify soon as

a certified teacher of Irish

dance (TCRG), which will allow

her to present her students at

competitions.

Class Sizes

To allow personal interaction, most class sizes at

Italia Performing Arts are limited to 10-12 students.

Summer Show

The studio presents its students and their work at an

annual summer show, usually in mid-June.
