BMI May/June 2003 6 Italy: Cargo Handling/Port Development/Rail Ansaldo has a new order from Ilva for Genova Cornigliano Ansaldo Reggiane, part of Fantuzzi group, has recently booked orders for heavy duty, steel handling cranes in France and Italy. French steel group SAM, in Neuves Maisons, has ordered a 25m- 48.7m-15m gantry crane rated at 35 tonnes under C-hook to handle steel coils. The crane is due to be handed over by the end of next February. The deal, says Ansaldo’s manag- ing director Ing Bonny Ricco, reflects Ansaldo’s core com- petence in the heavy industrial materials handling field. Ansaldo also has an order from Ilva (Riva steel group) for a heavy duty jib crane, rated at 45 tonnes-31m maxi- mum outreach from the rotat- ing centre, to be installed at the Ilva quay in Genoa Cornigliano. The crane, due to be handed over next March, will run on a portal with 15m rail centres and is required to have a maximum lift height of 26m at the full tonne/metre capacity of 1395 t/m. The design incorporates a special, low centre of gravity configuration, similar to cranes built in the past for Ilva Cornigliano as part of a col- laborative project with Dutch crane engineers. Ansaldo’s steel deals Campostano Group, which handles a range of mineral bulks, forest products and iron and steel products in Savona and Genoa, has recently com- pleted the acquisition of Savona operator SFAT Società Funiviaria Alto Tirreno from Italgas. The change of owner- ship was conducted through a special finance vehicle, Mepeg, which is controlled by Campostano and other parties, one of which is understood to be Coeclerici. As previously reported in BMI, SFAT is undergoing major changes and a new ship discharging facility is slated for completion in Savona’s Darsena Alti Fondali at the end of this year. This will en- able SFAT to receive vessels up to 120,000 dwt, completely transforming the economics of the operation as the present berth at Miramare is limited to 30,000 dwt vessels. The major landside im- provements will not be ready before 2005, however, As also previously reported, a new conveyor system is being in- stalled in tunnel under land and water to transfer the cargo to the loading point of SFAT’s 18 km long cableway which operates between the port and the coal dump at San Giuseppe di Cairo in Val Bormida, on the other side of the mountain overlooking Savona. The cableway is be- ing modernised and uprated with the help of public funds. Campostano has also acquired the 30-ha San Giuseppe dump and its equipment park. Campo takes SFAT Techint Technologies, among the world’s most prolific bulk handling equipment and sys- tems suppliers, recently re- ceived a contract from Chiyoda of Japan for the sup- ply of a urea handling plant at the ammonia-urea complex in Bandar Assuleyeh, Iran. Techint will supply com- plete engineering, supply and supervision for two portal scraper reclaimers each with a capacity of 1350 t/h, one shiploader for urea, rated at 1350 t/h in bulk or 2400 x 50 kg sacks/hour, two bagging stations and the complete con- veyor system. Delivery period is expected to be 13 months from the start of the contract. Techint has also received a contract from Tecnimont in Italy for the supply of a sul- phur handling plant for the new AGIP gas refinery in Wafa, Libya. The contract in- cludes one Techint Ital- impianti shiploader rated at 450 t/h and its relevant jetty conveyor, as well as a Techint Italimpianti pipe conveyor ca. 1.9 km long. The speed of the pipe conveyor is in the range of 3 m/sec. The plant is sched- uled for commissioning in the first quarter of 2004. Brazil jobs As reported in the last edition of BMI (p1), in February this year Techint Technologies, in co-operation with Brazilian manufacturing company Con- fab, which is also part of the Techint group, successfully commissioned the bucket chain continuous ship- unloader (CSU) for bauxite at the alumina refinery terminal of Alunorte located in Barcarena, Brazil. The 2000 t/h capacity CSU can unload ships in the 47,000-75,000 dwt range and is positioned on the same jetty as a Techint CSU in operation since 1995. Both CSUs are equipped with Techint Tech- nologies’ patented variable geometry digging foot design, to allow for high efficiency and lower operating cost. The contract also included a new 1500 t/h alumina shiploader and the upgrading of the ex- isting jetty conveyor. As also previously reported in BMI , in June last year Techint Italimpianti and Con- fab were contracted by CVRD Compania Vale do Rio Doce to supply a new 8000 t/h shiploader for the Carajas iron ore terminal in São Luis, Bra- zil, capable of loading vessels up to 200,000 dwt. at lower speed compared to tradi-tional crushers.

These machines have been suc-cessfully applied to materials such ashard limestone, soft limestone andclay in Italian cement plants ofLafarge, Colacem and of Cementeriadi Monselice and Unicalce quarries. In the latest project, Buzzi Group hasordered crushing units for clay, ironore, chalk and lime for CementosMoctezuma in Mexico. The instal-lation comprises a hopper to receivematerial from trucks, an apron feederand primary and secondary cascadecrushers.

The RL crushers incorporate the

latest generation, double serratedcylinders and are well suited for hardand sticky materials which are diffi-cult to process in traditional crush-ers. The circular clay store has a raildiameter of 60m and the circular limestore a rail diameter of 80m. Theyare prehomogenising stores and thestackers and reclaimers rotate aroundthe central column.

Polish dealIn Poland, Bedeschi has beenawarded a contract by CementowniaChelm SA (RMC group) to supply areclaimer for a cement plant in theeast of the country. This is a bucketreclaimer suitable for very sticky

chalk, which is especially difficult tohandle when it freezes during coldweather. Even in these conditions, machine operation is guaranteed andthe buckets are cleaned by scrapingdevices. The machine will replace anexisting scraper machine. It has acantilever boom of 23m length andbuckets of 500 litre capacity. Deliv-ery is slated for this summer.

Bedeschi also has a turnkey con-tract for the design, engineering, con-struction and supply of a pre-homog-enisation hall for raw materials at theItapessoca plant of João Santosgroup in Brazil. The project will in-clude a new 600 t/h capacity longi-tudinal luffing stacker, a 300 t/h fron-

tal reclaimer (type PAL T 130/27+4)and automated storage equipment. The project will increase storage ca-pacity to 60,000t, in two 160m longpiles with the highest degree of ho-mogenisation. Commissioning isslated for the end of this year.

Clay crushingAnother contract has come from F LSmidth for a clay crushing installa-tion at the new cement plant ofChinfon Haiphong Cement Corpo-ration in Vietnam, where conditionsare very humid. Bedeschi is supply-ing a type CNA 6,5/1500B apronfeeder feeding toothed, double rollerprimary and secondary crushers. To-

tal capacity of this crushing group is250 t/h. Inlet grain size is 650mm andoutlet grain size is 60mm.

A project has also been carried outfor Kosjeric Cement (Titan Group)in Serbia/Montenegro. This com-prises a new 300 t/h capacity frontalreclaimer and automation of the ex-isting stacker. Storage capacity willbe increased to 28,000t in two 120mlong, homogenised piles.

Other recent contracts include astorage yard for Solvay inRossignano, stacking limestone forthe soda production cycle. It is fur-nished with an 800 t/h stacker with a42m long boom. In the Port ofRouen, France, Bedeschi has fur-
