Materials for most of the furniture are of metal and for a few furniture where wood has to be used, the wood shall be covered with melamine laminate. No bare wood should be visible at any place in any of the furniture to be provided. WORKTOPS: Granite The table worktops where specified shall be of at least 18(±1) mm thick Chamrajnagar Jet Black color Granite (min 7 to 8 Kg per Sq. Ft) of even surface, fine to close-grained, with equi-granular crystalline texture, without any undue specks, or cracks. The edges of the granite tops shall be half round molded and polished, with not more than two joints.
Melamine laminate
Thickness 18 mm and/or 24 mm ±1 mm Core Material (BWP – Boiled Water Proof) plywood. Finish – High quality HPL (High pressure Melamine laminate) of 0.8mm hot pressed on both the sides. The exposed edges of the worktop shall be sealed with minimum 3mm thick high quality PVC edges. For strong bonding and durability, the lamination and edging shall be machine pressed at high temperature and pressure. The Melamine Laminated plywood conforms to BS, NEMA & BIS Standards. WORK TOP/CABINETRY SUPPORT FRAME WORK
The worktops shall be supported by ‘H’ frames. These standard H frames
support shall be made of 2mm thickness 30 x 30 mm square tube sections which are welded. Front and back frames shall be provided for connecting all the ‘H’ frames, supporting complete bench. Worktops and all under-bench cabinetry sink units etc. shall be supported by this frame work. The frame work shall be de – greased and epoxy powder coated with the thickness of min. 80 microns for smooth finish and protection. Adjustable leveling jacks of tough plastic/nylon shall be provided for each leg for the support of the frame.
METAL CABINETS / METAL OVERHEAD CABINETS
Door and drawers front shall be fabricated of 1mm thick CRCA steel. Door & drawers shall be double pan construction, with insulating material fastened to

the inside for sound deadening, and strength, to prevent panning and between the metal and the coating. All exposed surfaces, including door and drawer head interiors, shall be electro statically coated with a thermo setting laboratory grade powder coating. Doors shall be readily removable and hinges easily replaceable. Door & drawer front shall be pre-treated with an iron phosphate multi-stage process that includes a final sealer and deionized water rinse for excellent adhesion. Hinges shall be applied to the cabinet and door with screws.
The doors and drawers shall be provided with “D” shaped handle.
Where specified good quality locks and keys shall be provided for cabinets.
Cabinet body shall be fabricated of 1mm thick CRCA steel. Base shall be welded
together with neat, professional MIG weld fillets. For maximum strength, fillets shall be left ungrounded. Shelves shall be constructed of 1mm thick CRCA steel, with channels formed on four sides. Shelf clips shall be made from 1mm thick CRCA sheet with zinc plating, and are to be adjustable vertically in 1” increments. Cabinet body & shelves shall be pre-treated with an iron phosphate multi-stage process that includes a final sealer and deionized water rinse for excellent adhesion between the metal and the coating. All exposed surfaces, including door and drawer head interiors, shall be electro statically coated with a thermos setting laboratory grade powder coating
There shall be minimum of two heavy duty nickel plated, self-closing concealed
hinges for each cabinet door and shall open 100 degree and shall be with 3 way adjustment for perfect finish and correct alignment.
Drawer slides shall be made of metal, zinc plated, running on ball bearing to
allow smooth and silent sliding and shall have full extension with 35 kg load capacity.
Filler panel / Knee space shall be made of 1mm thick CRCA steel, finished same
as casework cabinets, and Knee space panels are removable for access to mechanical service areas.
Powder Coating: Thickness: 80 micron Material type: Epoxy Polyester blend CABLE GROMMET
The cable grommet on the work surface shall be flexible plastic component for easy and safe passage of wires.
ELECTRICAL FITTINGS
Pedestal box
Page 16/17
Sleek, Robust and Small Electrical pedestal boxes shall be made of 1.2mm thick CRCA sheets to accommodate, single, double or quadruplet sockets and switches. The pedestal should take only very minimum space on the work table. The Pedestal boxes shall be epoxy powder coated to min 80 microns for good finish and aesthetic look.
Electrical Sockets and switches
Supply shall be standard 6/16 Amp/220 Volt single, double or quadruplet electrical sockets which fully conforms to IS-1293-1988. Flame retardant, UV stabilized, unbreakable polycarbonate casing. Connector of phosphor bronze to provide high conductivity, flexibility and contact pressure. Silver plated (7 microns) brass terminals to reduce heating and improve conductivity. To be Encased in metal pedestal box, for mounting on to bench work tops or on service pillars. Switches shall be Piano type unless otherwise specified. Sockets can be either Crabtree , Legrand , or Northwest.
Electrical wires The single core and multi core sheathed cables shall be manufactured as per IS 694: 1990, these carry the prestigious ISI mark and duly approved by FIA/TAC. The conductors, drawn from 99.97% bright electrolytic grade copper with more than 100% conductivity, annealed and bunched together. The conductors shall be insulated with a PVC compound with high insulation resistance and dielectric. Strength formulated and manufactured in-house. In case of multi core cables, the insulated cores shall be laid up to form the core assembly. The inner cores shall be coded for ease of identification as per National/International coding practices. The sheathing shall be provided with a specially formulated PVC compound to facilitate not only ease in stripping but also to withstand mechanical abrasion while in use. These PVC compounds used for insulation and sheathing have a high oxygen and temperature index. These properties help in restricting the spread of fire even at very high temperatures. The wires can be either Havells, Polycab, VGuard or Finolex.
QUALITY TESTING:
The quality tests should be conducted on random specified tables and shelves as per the Supply Order at the Vendor’s work place or other location and allowed to be witnessed by the client/end user before acceptance. A certificate of acceptance testing shall be provided. If the Vendor has a different procedure for the quality test than that are given below, it can be provided for consideration by URSC.
1) Drawers:
Should be load/pull tested keeping 35 kg calibrated and certified weights inside the drawers and drawer push/pull test carried out for a minimum of programmed 10,000 cycles. Acceptance criteria: Drawer should not have any signs of permanent
Page 17/17
failure. The Drawer shall operate freely without any sort of binding or rubbing.
2) Doors hinges: Test Door should be opened 90 degrees and should be applied with a weight at the centre line suspended on either side of the door with a minimum of 70 kg (35 kg on each side) and swing the door five times as a cycle of fully closed to fully open. Acceptance criteria: Open Door should withstand the above load without any permanent damage. Operation of Door after this test should not show any binding of the door, damage to hinges, nor any other symptom adversely affecting operations.
3) Table load test: The tables should be load tested with minimum 400 kg of solid steel bars distributed and evenly spaced and after a period of 24 hours checked for any distortion. Deflections should be noted in between. Acceptance criteria: The maximum deflection should not be greater than 10 mm over a period of 24 hours. The Table and its legs should not have any signs of permanent failure.
4) Powder coating test: Standard tests should be done and a certificate of conformance provided.
