Ogilvy's new campaign for Expedia makes great use of airport luggage tags

Goodbye festive season, hello relentless January and the steady rhythm of the daily grind. I don’t know about you but right now I could use a little luxury weekend break, a round of spa treatments or maybe even just a week on the beach.

In lieu of any last-minute getaways allow the folks over at Ogilvy to brighten up your (dark, damp) Monday with their latest campaign for Expedia, that utilises those ubiquitous three-letter airport luggage tags to wonderfully witty effect. Apparently there’s more than 900 airports worldwide that utilise these iconic adhesive labels so the team had a plethora of little words in their armory. We can’t fault the execution, the innovative use of an item that’s so readily discarded, or the perfect timing of a campaign that urges us to

up and leave this grey place for some much-needed respite. Heck it’s almost made me forget my Monday blues.

Navigate your way around David Lemm's fascinating screenprints

Thought-provoking to say the least, this beautiful series of screenprints have been created by Edinburgh-based David Lemm. The foundation of David’s work comes from shamanistic imagery and the physical/metaphysical relationship we have with the earth. By “creating imagery that is simultaneously recognisable, yet mysterious and unfamiliar,” it is safe to say I’m feeling unnerved about that man standing idly in the distance. Creepy!

David screenprints directly onto maps and charts, leaving the original marking so it becomes a part of the composition. Spooky landscapes are sculpted out of pieces of foam and flour to form desert and mountain ranges. Pretty cool, huh.

Short but definitely sweet! Sergio Membrillas' ace bookshelf

A brief but brilliant selection here from the fabulous illustrator Sergio Membrillas. A favourite in the It’s Nice That HQ for his constant updates, Sergio’s editorial illustrations just seem to keep flowing out of his head! Naturally, his selection includes some of the nicest illustration books around. Dig in!

Blexbolex: SeasonsIt’s one of these books you have to close to realise the beauty of the images you are seeing. The talent to represent concepts, words and his magic sensibility are amazing. It’s like a book from the past, and it’s one of my favourites!

The Small Stakes: Music PostersI think his work is changing some way the music imagery and

recovering the tradition of the past of taking care of bands’ image. Beautiful images linked to concepts that describe perfectly the bands he is doing the posters for. Precise and smart. This book is a compendium of his latest work, perfect for music/illustration/design fans.

The Sweetly Diabolic Art of Jim Flora. One of the masters, one of the big ones. A book full of brilliant works, Just great!

Bjorn Rune Lie: The Wolf’s WhistleAnother book that seems brought from the past. Great edition by the always careful Nobrow publishing house. I can
