The2017IWAChristmasCharityBazaarcarriedonthetraditionofgatheringcolors,flavors,crafts,andsoundsfromallovertheworldforoneday.Fifty-onecountriestookthebazaar’svisitorsonaninternationaljourneyandoverfourhundredvolunteers-peoplewhoagreedtocommittheirtime,energyandheart-participatedinthismagicalcausethatgeneratedarippleeffectthroughoutourcommunity.

Wealldidourbest:dance,cook,organize,takepictures,cheer,sell,entertain,smile,hug,translate;itallcametogetherlikethepiecesofabeautifulpuzzlewhereeachsectionisuniqueandnecessarytoachievethefinalimage.

Anyinitialmisgivingsinthefaceofnever-endinglistsofdetailstocoordinateandlast-minutepreparationsvanishedwhenpeoplekeptoncallingthenightbeforetheeventtoask:"WhatcanIdo,howcanIbeapartofit?"

Countriesthatparticipatedforthefirsttimefeltthecontagioustouchoftheenergythatsuchaneventcreates,andhavealreadyinformedusthattheywouldbecomingbacknextyear.

Media,bloggers,andsocialmediaspreadthenews,andmanyofthemweresurprisedtowitnessforeigndelegationsandall-embracingcommunitiessharingtheiruniquenessandjoininginforceswiththeIWAteam,sothattogetherwecouldofferoursupporttothoseinneed.

DearIWAmembersandfriends, Congratulations!TheIWAChristmasCharityBazaarheldonSunday,December10th,wasagreatsuccess,anddueinnosmallparttothegenerouscontributionsoftimeandresourcesby51countries,IWAwasabletoraiseimpressivefundsforitscharitableactivities.AsthesinglemostimportantsourceofincomeforIWA’scharitablework,thevalueofeachcountry’ssupportandparticipationcannotbeemphasizedenough.Themoneyraisedwillcontinuetofundtrainingandeducationalprogramsforyouthandadultswithphysicalandintellectualdisabilities,aswellaslow-incomefamilies,torenovatefacilities,provideequipment,andimprovethedeliveryofexistingmedicalservices.In2017,twelvecharityprojectsreceivedatotalgrantof152,566lei,andthankstoyou,in2018IWAwillbeabletoofferevenmore.Forthis,onbehalfofIWAPresidentXimenaReyesandBazaarChairMarinaCoandaBundac,Iwishtoexpressmyprofoundgratitude.IWAwelcomesyourcontinuedsupportin2018.Togetherwecanmakesustainableimprovementsinthecircumstancesofmanyindividualsinneed.Iwillbehostingareceptiontopersonallythankthebazaar'sbenefactorsinFebruary2018,andwouldbepleasedifyouwouldattend.Withbestwishesforaprosperous2018,Sincerely,GladysAbankwa-Meier-KlodtHonoraryChairIWAChristmasBazaar2017

IWA CHARITY COMMITTEE UPDATE IWA supports charitable organizations in the greater Bucharest area by providing grants for short-term projects in order to improve the lives of disadvantaged Romanians. We actively seek new applications and encourage you to refer nongovernmental associations to our website for more information. All requests are carefully reviewed and organizations are visited before and after funding to ensure the best possible use of our donations. IWA is an all-volunteer association, and is audited yearly to ensure best financial practices. All proceeds from the Bazaar go to the IWA Charity Committee.
