Joining us is UCLA professor Michael Allen, a distinguished research professor in the English department, a winner of the Eby awardfor undergraduate teaching, and, among other honors, a Fellow of theBritish Academy. He has taught medieval and Renaissance literature and notably Shakespeare and Chaucer here for over forty years and has lectured far and wide on Renaissance humanism, philosophy, and theology.Though the bulk of his scholarly contribution has been in the history of Platonism at the court of Lorenzo de’ Medici, he has studied and taught the great authors of the French Renaissance, including Ronsard, Rabelais, and Montaigne; andhe is a lifetime Francophile. He and his artist wife Elena have been the hosts on a number ofUCLA Alumni trips, most recently to Turkey, rural France, Apulia, Sicily and southern Spain.
