I.Y.C. Presentation

The YYC Charter Document was prepared by delegates during the 2006 International Youth Convocation in Busan, Korea and presented to ICM 06

The document contained different motions and was unanimously received and endorsed by ICM.

This decision led to the adoption of several new procedures, notably, the Charter Procedures for the formation of new Y’s Youth Clubs.

The YYC is a Club recognized officially by YMI as a partner and as a related group collaborating with YMI it’s not a Y’s Men’s

DEFINITION OF THE Y’S YOUTH CLUB

MEMBERSHIP OF Y’S YOUTH CLUB• The YYC is open to male and female

members between 15 and 30 years of ageSTATUS IN THE YMI

• The YYC is a part of the YMI organization and the YYC Club President and representatives have the right and duty to attend District and Regional meetings. Accordingly, the same right and duty applies to Area and International Youth Representatives in accordance with Area and IHQ office

The YYC is encouraged to support the YMCA or work with the YMCA based on the partnership of the Y’s Men’s Club and the local YMCA. YYC activities will not conflict with any YMCA programme.

No dues are to be collected by Y’s Men International Area, Region or District levels.

SECTION 1: The Purpose of the Club

“A ‘Y’s Youth Club’ (hereinafter “YYC”) is a part of the International Association of Y’s Men’s Clubs which is a worldwide fellowship of persons of all faiths working together in mutual respect and affection, based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, and with a common loyalty to the Young Men’s Christian Association, striving through active service to develop , encourage and provide leadership to build a better world for all people” IYC Stavanger 2012 8

PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES OF Y’S YOUTH CLUBS ( Y’S MEN INTERNATIONAL)

SECTION 2: The Objectives of the Club

To encourage youth to promote the high ideals of service of the YMCA and to involve themselves actively in service activities to the YMCA and community with YMI. Enriching the collaboration and partnership of the YMCA and Y’s Men International

To facilitate the transition of young people to Y’s Men’s Clubs.

To engage the energies of the youth productively and channel such to community relevance.

Y’s Youth Clubs: Major Highlights

The ASD Youth Involvement and Activities is responsible for receiving, checking and endorsing all Charter applications from their Area and sending them to the Youth Intern at IHQ.

The Y’s Youth Club Charter Certificate is issued to the Club endorsed by the International Youth Representative (IYR), Youth Intern and ISD YIA.

The guidelines and procedures not only apply to the formation of all new Y’s Youth Clubs but also to Clubs that already exist but not yet officially chartered and recorded at IHQ.IYC Stavanger 2012 12

The new process will allow the Youth Intern to begin collecting Youth Involvement statistics and will assist with better communication and planning.

Youth Clubs are exempt from all dues

YYCs are open to members aged 15-30 years old.

A Y’s Youth Club does not have voting rights in International elections

Under the “Family membership” scheme, youth members 18-25 years who belong to their parent(s)’ Clubs pay 50% International Dues

Such youths are included in the official number of members in the Club (1st April & 1st October RD Membership Report).

Youth members below 18 years who belong to their parent(s) Club do not pay any International Dues. Such members are not included in the official number of members of the Club

YOUTH MEMBERS IN Y’S MEN’S CLUBS

Youth members in a Club pay 100% Dues if these youth members do not fall under the “Family Membership” scheme.

Youths not under the “Family Membership” scheme are those who do not have any parent(s) in the Club.

If a Y’s Men’s Club is made up of young members (no parents in the Club), these young members pay 100% International Dues.

Note the difference between a Y’s Youth Club and a Young Y’s Men’s Club

PROCEDURES FOR THE CHARTER OF NEW Y’S YOUTH CLUB (YYC)Below are the procedures to be followed when applying for the charter of a new Y’s Youth Club. Applications for a new Club should be directed to the Area Service Director for Youth Involvement and Activities (hereinafter “ASD YIA”) who shall be responsible for endorsing the charter application. Youth Intern shall be responsible for accepting the application at IHQ.

The new Club applies for charter to the ASD YIA using the YYC “Charter Application” form and YYC “Charter Checklist”.

The ASD YIA checks the Charter Application, following the YYC “Charter Checklist” and sends it with the necessary documents to the Youth Intern at IHQ. The date this documentation from the ASD YIA is received at IHQ becomes the YYC Charter Application Date, which is written into the text of the YYC Charter certificate.

After ensuring that the documentation fulfils all necessary requirements (which should already have been checked by the ASD YIA), the Youth Intern prepares the YYC Charter certificate. The certificate is signed by the International Youth Representative (IYR), the Youth Intern (YI) and the International Service Director for Youth Involvement and Activities (ISD YIA).

IHQ sends the Charter certificate (as indicated on the YYC Charter Check List) so that it arrives in time for the “YYC Charter Presentation Date” (“YYC Charter Date”). On this day, the Charter is handed over to the new Y’s Youth Club, usually during a special celebration, with the ASD YIA handing over the Charter if possible.

It is important that enough time be allowed in this process for IHQ to make and send the Charter certificate and to send out an announcement about the birth of the new Y’s Youth Club. The announcement should arrive in time for those leaders receiving it to write a letter of welcome to each of the new Y’s Youth Clubs being announced. A minimum of 4-6 weeks is therefore needed between the YYC Charter Application Date (which is 7-10 days after the ASD YIA has sent it to IHQ) and the actual YYC Charter Presentation Date.
