21 December 1870 27 January 1934 Wife of Patrick Thomas Daily. Pioneer of Southern Cross district, arriving there 1894.

Dall, Mabel Annie Wife of Sydney Cecil Dall. Pioneered virgin land in Quairading, came before any railway there, did not see another white woman for 6 months at a time. Reared family of 10 children with no doctors nearby. Well-educated woman.

Danes, Mrs Charlotte S. Pioneered with husband, Alfred Danes, took up land in 1922. 1st woman to make a home in Burakin. After husband killed in an accident 1942, Mrs Danes worked farm alone, then leased is and worked during war canning food for troops.

1888 1966 Wife of Rowland Botterill. Pioneer of Gnowangerup 1911.

Davies, Lucy 21 July 1883 A staunch worker for Castledare and Clontarf Boy’s Town for past 60 years. Foundation member Catholic Women’s League in 1937 and was Treasurer for 27 years.

Davies, Rosa Went to Yorkrakine from Perth with 5 small children August 1915.

Davies, Sarah She and husband pioneered timber industry in South West corner of State in 1875. Also took part in many public and social activities in the Karridale area.

Daw, Polly Charlotte Came to Esperance from South Australia 1894. Mother of 11 children. Worked hard for establishment of 1st church in Esperance.

Dawe, Ellen Ann Went to Nungarin district 1913, farming property 7 miles from town. 1963 she moved into township, her husband died 1954. Still living at this time, aged 82 years.

Dawson, Anne Wife of Elijah. Arrived Fremantle 11 March 1830 and settled in Vasse and Augusta district 1832.

Dawson, Christine Jane Was among 1st women to arrive in Northcliffe district January 1924.

Dawson, Deborah Margaret With her husband took up farming on virgin land at Bullock Hills, via Katanning 1901.

Day, Christine Louisa Mathilde Went to Moojebing with young family of 4 children to live in small cottage of timber and iron 1895. Another child was born. Spent many years of hardship and isolation from medical help and schooling.

Day, Esther Alice 1893 1966 Born Stawell, Victoria. Arrived Fremantle 1899. Took up land at Kulin 1911. Retired 1953.

Day, Mary Ann 1859 1947 Born Beachworth, Victoria. Came to Fremantle 1898, took up land at Kulin 1909.

Day, Susan (nee Hymus) 28 January 1839 28 November 1929 Pioneer of Rockingham district and with her husband managed the Stage Coach Inn. Had 15 children, reared 14.

De Largie, Elfreda (nee Watt) Wife of Paul de Largie, 1st schoolteacher at Kondinin School, June 1917. Later married Paul, a local farmer. Had 9 children.

Della Bosca, Florence Isabel (nee Northey)

Born Goldfields, one of 13 children. After marriage went mining 1915 at Nevoria, later to Yellowdine. Husband supplied wood for No 7 Pumping Station. Had 7 children and later farmed at Bronte.

Della Vale, Martina Mary 1881 Born Italy. Arrived from Genoa 1899, aged 18 years. Went by Cobb and Co. coach to Kalgoorlie, then direct to Wiluna. Lived in various outback areas of the northern Goldfields for 30 years.

Della-Vedova, Candida Came to Kalgoorlie from Italy 1900, then moved to West Arthur district 1908, settled with husband and children on virgin land. Lived there until her death in 1964 aged 85 years.

Depiazzi, Catherine (nee Busher)

20 June 1883 Born Waterloo. Lived all her unmarried life at Paradise. One of 1st pupils to attend Waterloo School, walking through scrub each day. 1902 married Bernard Depiazzi and lived on Farm “Fair View”, which is still farmed by her son. Had 9 children.

De Pledge, Ethel Barker 14 January 1877 2 August 1955 Born Sheffield, England. Died Kendenup. Wife of Henry Valentine De Pledge. Came to W.A. 1921, to Kendenup in the de Garis Days. Pioneer woman of property ‘Rivelin’. Reared family of 1 daughter and 3 sons.

Derrick, Alma (nee Roberts) 1852 1945 Born Victoria, died Dalwallinu. Wife of George. Had 6 children. Pioneer of district. Member of CWA.

Dettman, Dorothy OBE Wife of Harry. First, and to date, only woman ever elected to the committee of the Royal Justices Association. Was elected 1959 and is still a member.

Devenish, Gwendoline (nee McWaters)

Married 2 September 1922. Went to virgin land, Cunderdin 1925, Stonehaven Farm.

Dickman, Elizabeth (nee Wyte) 1883 1964 Born Adelaide. Arrived Albany when few months old. Married Charles Dickman 1904. Reared 8 children. Pioneer of Albany. Died there.

Dickson, Caroline 13 November 1857 4 December 1912 Born York. Married 1891 Boyup Brook. Died Bridgetown, having lived at Boyup Brook all her married life. Organizer and worker for development of Boyup Brook, raising money for building of Old Town Hall, now Clinic and rest room.

Di Marchi, Jessie Emma (nee Coppin)

1884 Born Roebourne, Yarri Station on the De Grey. Married Ben Di Marchi 1905. Went to Minningarra Station, an unimproved lease where they lived for 40 years.

Ding, Mrs Louisa Pioneer of Brookton District, 1907-1923.

Dinsdale, Matilda (nee Mills) 27 April 1937 Came to Aust. Aged 31/2 years with parents on ‘Travencore’ 1852. Settled in York. Lived in York-Toodyay and Fremantle. Her Father was in Police Force. Married York 23 December 1871. Had 10 children.

Diprose, Anne Tambellup 1904-1930. Lived in house made of bush timber.

Dix, Sarah Doxford 1876 Pioneered and endured hardships of Goldfields, Malcolm 1907 then Broad Arrow and Kalgoorlie. Later pioneered farm at Kendenup 1925 with her family. Still lives there aged 91 years.

Dixon, Catherine Ann Came to Fremantle from England 1849 and lived there all her life. Reared family of 11 children. Suffered hard conditions of

Dodd, Annie 1886 Arrived from Doodlakine in a spring cart with husband and 4 sons 1927. Settled on virgin block Warrachuppin, lived in a tent.

Dodd, Elizabeth 1850 Born England. Arrived 1859 on ‘Sultana’. Lived at Butler’s Swamp. Went farming at Dandaragan after marriage. Acted as midwife to the district in 1890.

1879 Married and went to Cunderdin 1901. Pioneered Belac Farm. Widowed 1913 and married James Donovan. Her 1st husband was James Price.

Donovan, Mary Anne 16 October 1857 23 July 1942 Born Dalkeith. Spent early part of adult life in Murchison district, returning to Osborne Park 1891. Mother of 2 sons and 4 daughters.

Doran, Alice Founder of CWA Forrest Hill 1939-51. Also member of Forrest Hill-Denbarker CWA.

Dorrell, Mabel Violet 1890 27 November 1939 Came to W.A. from England 1923, went to virgin country on dairy farm 20 miles east of Manjimup. One trip to town per year at beginning. Transport horse and buggy. Two children, 1 son and 1 daughter.

Doscas, Margaret Settled Cottesloe with husband John 1898. Sister to Lady Forrest and lived Cottesloe all her life. Foundation member of early charitable movements including Red Cross. Foundation member of Liberal League founded by late Mrs F.D. North.

15 April 1853 Born London. Daughter of Rev. Henry James Adams, Anglican Minister, Devonshire Place, London. Married 20 October 1888 to George Henry Draper of London. Came to W.A. 1889.

Draper, Mrs Iris Jane Pioneer of district, 5 miles N.W. of Narembeen 1929. Played active part in all women’s organizations.1st President Narembeen ladies Bowling Club.

1856 1925 Wife of Connelius John Dunne. Came from York Peninsula, South Australia, landed Albany 1894, then to Goldfields 1895, travelled by Cobb and Co. coach. Later went on farm at Wagin, virgin land, 1920.

Dunstan, Mary Eleanor 1949 Came to W.A. from Victoria, 1895. Reared her family in Northam. Died in Perth. Her husband, a railway man, was moved from place to place in the State and she proved to be a good helpmate to him.

Ford, Alwine Sophia Arrived W.A. 1904, married 1909. Pioneered virgin land 5 miles from Brookton. Was an active worker for the Red Cross, RSL and CWA. Now residing in Albany.

Ford, Freda Agnes (nee Moeser)

1894 Born South Australia. Came with her parents to Avon Park near Aldersyde 1910. Married Martin Ford 1910, he had land at Ashfield, 10 miles from Brookton and Qualen near Aldersyde. Family of 6 sons and 5 daughters, all still living. Mr Ford died 1950. Mrs Ford still alive (1970).

5 May 1853 29 May 1942 Married at Wilberforce church near York 7 December 1881. 1st white woman in Ashburton district, made her home at Minderoo, near Onslow. Had 7 children - eldest 2 sons died and buried at Onslow (John and William), 2 daughters and another son, also deceased, Donald died at Suez 1915. 1 son Robert still alive.

Forrest, Margaret Wife of William Forrest. Came to W.A. from Perth, Scotland with Leschenaultia Settlement Scheme in ’Trusty’ 1842.1st son born on voyage, 2nd son James Hill Forrest born Leschenaultia, 3rd son John became Lord Forrest. 7 sons born to them. Pioneered and built Picton House, Picton.

Forward, Mrs Caroline 1820 1899 Born England. Came to Australia with her husband on ‘Parmelia’. Settled in Northam and surrounding districts. Their descendants settled on many of the farms near Northam.

Forward, Emily (nee Morrell) Daughter of Richard Morrell, an early pioneer of the State. Married William Forward 1873. Helped her husband in all district activities, which included local government and Agricricultural Society, also Church of England.

Frearson, Mrs Olive Elizabeth Came to Tammin 1911. Pioneered store in town.

Freeman, Mrs Charlotte 1879 Born York. One of 1st white settlers at Carnarvon. Went there 1882 and lived there for 60 years. Went to Perth and died aged 84 years. Has a street in Carnarvon named after her.

French, Fanny (nee Wisbey) Married John French of ‘Gold Gully Farm’, Irish town, Northam, 29 April 1874, where she resided until her death at 30 years of age in 1885, leaving family of 4 sons and 2 daughters.
