SF Public Press - Northern California Newspapers alone have downsized by more than 1,000 employees in the past decade. This forces fewer journalists to attempt to cover larger ground – inevitably some important stories are missed. SF Public Press is a nonprofi t news organization that aims to fi ll that void and deliver in depth local journalism not supported by local advertising. SF Public Press currently has 70 professional and volunteer journalists. With over 200 donors SF Public Press was able to expand from a digital to print newspaper in the summer of 2010. They hope to create a sustainable and replicable model for print journalism similar to that of public broadcasting.

Jae Jin My host company is Zoom Systems. In the first week, I was in Project Management, but last week, I moved to Field Service. In this part, I make a new manual about parts and products of vending machine. The existing manual was made almost 5 years ago, so we needed a new one. It’s very useful for the company and exciting for me. I’m very satisfied with this new project and my coworker helping me is a very friendly and kind guy. For making a new manual, I checked problems of pre-manual beforehand and then I decided how I can make new one. I took lots of pictures of parts and I’m making a document about it with a detail description now. Nowadays, I understand better than before about work, because I have to describe everything about work in this manual. In S.F., One of my goals is making a new manual before leaving here. ZoomSystem is the company that behind zoomshops. Zoomsystem partners with brands to sell products such as ipods, proactive, sephora make-up and more through their patented zoomshop vending machine. After the drastic research and development, Zoomsystem was founded in 2002 and in 2 years they partnered with world market. They are now growing not only in U.S but also internationally.


Nils I am doing an Internship at Metaio in San Francisco. I am certain that this technology will be very much relevant to our everyday life in the near future so I am very excited about it and I am very glad that I can work for Metaio. In Metaio’s San Francisco Office there are only 4 employees and they are all originating from different countries so we have a very nice, international and familiar working atmosphere. In my Internship I am dealing with marketing issues like doing an e-mail campaign and working on the social media sites. I also get insights into recruitment, idea generation, web design and many other things. All this comes along with a lot of challenging work for me, but I think that this internship is a great opportunity for me to gain insight and experience in the marketing and IT sectors, the field were I would really like to work in the future. Atsushi I work at Link TV. This company is a non-commercial American satellite television net work providing “diverse perspectives on world and national issues.” At this company, I’m in charge of helping a production of ‘Global Pulse’, a channel which provides international political news. My main work is to make a report about specific political topic after gathering information and analyzing it. For instance, recently I have made a report as to Iranian nuclear power plant in Bushehr. My another work is to watch news from major media organizations such as BBC, FOX, Russia Today, Al-Jazeera and so on and after summing up contents of these news, log it on a computer. Link TV is a national network media organization using digital technology to offer broadcasts on international matters, cultural issues and news that are often not aired in U.S. Link TV’s aim is to “engage” “inform” “inspire” the viewers so that they can have the global perspective to take action for the world.
