MANAYUNK WATERFOWL OBSERVATORY

After examining theprevious materialstudies, wood wasemployed as the main component for the observatory. This allowed the inhabitant allowed the inhabitant the ability to experience a natural, comforting, and concealing spaceto observe waterfowl as they please.

The Ritual House beganas an introductory exercise in programming space. Starting from the assignment of a ceremony termed the “formal dinner party”,“formal dinner party”,the traditional ritualsof a classical dinner partywere examined and theninterpreted into a seriesof section drawings. The first in a series of fast-paced and partneredstudio exercises conductedin Rome, Italy. VIA FLAMINIA AQUEDUCTS

The result is a mixed usecomplex consisting of parkspace, market space, aninformal forum, residential,commercial, and galleryspaces. The Aqueducts are allowed to pull water are allowed to pull water down from the nearby hill in order to sustain the various green spaces throughout the site, as wellas transport the users tothe various spaces and thenearby metro line.nearby metro line.

PORTAGRIDThe Second in a seriesof exercises conducted in Rome, Italy, was for a Modular market space inhabiting a previously chaotic and derelict openair market. The marketair market. The markethad previously been occupied by illegal semi-permanent structures which were rigid and lackedadaptability. PORTAPORTESE STUDIOThe third in a series ofexercises conducted in Rome, Italy, was chosento be a recording studio, practice space, and outdoormusic venue located betweenthe Tiber river and Portathe Tiber river and PortaPortese. The program waschosen due to the areashistorical, musical backgroundit being home to a family ofinfluential opera singers.The space was broken downinto programmatic volumesinto programmatic volumeswhich were then arrangedthroughout the site by orderof privacy, volume, and noise level.

Located in South Philadelphiaon the site of an existingill-equipt library, the Carpenter Street Library was developed to meet the needsof a growing neighborhood anda changing library culture. Operatinga changing library culture. Operatingas a series of model building exercises,the library began as a series of studiesat 1/32 scale which increasedin size and detail through 1/4 scale. Asthe models increased in size, so did theapparent needs and requirements of the design.

PATTERNING POROSITYStemming from an investigation of patternsfound in nature, the Grasshopper plug-inwas utilized to reproduce the qualities and characteristics foundcharacteristics foundin our chosen natural patterns. The patternselected was found in a cross-sectionof a cat’s tooth. The qualities of direction, division, and individualdivision, and individualunits were reinterpretedthrough the Grasshopperplug-in’s parameters.After achieving thedesired results in 2Ddrawing form, the studiowas assigned a section was assigned a section of curtain wall and givenpartners to further adapt the designs.After a series of iterative processes and conversion of the2D drawing informationinto 3D objects, theinto 3D objects, thedesigns were CNCmilled into styrofoamwhich was installedinto the curtain wallat Temple University’sArchitecture Building.

The Land Art GeneratorInitiative hosted in the City of Copenhagencalled for artists anddesigners to developnew forms of renewable,inhabitable energy on ainhabitable energy on asite in Refshaloen, off ofCopenhagen Harbor. TheProject began as a series of site analysis experiments,gathering data from the locationand plugging into Grasshopperfor tangible visual results.for tangible visual results.I chose to examine the frequencyand trajectory of different types ofship travel throughout the site. Theseresults were reflected in drawing formas well as a CNC milling into a woodpanel. The results were then used incollaboration with two teammates’collaboration with two teammates’studies as a parameter for the human-interaction throughout the site.

LAND ART GENERATOR

The results of our collaborative effort are a self-sustaining, energy-generating machine which utilizes Bio-Remediationtechniques to harvest and cleanthe soil of the current industrialinfill site.
