the chinatoWn in DoWntoWn Boston Was one of the main Branches that existeD Without a LiBrary over more than haLf a century. my senior ProJect Was to create a LiBrary/community center to Bring aDDitionaL resource anD sPace for cuLturaL anD eDucationaL PurPoses.
in 2006, the BuiLDing Was constructeD anD Became the first green BuiLDing certifieD With a siLver rating for successfuLLy meeting the sustainaBLe BuiLDing Design anD Performance stanDarDs. this site Was seLecteD for my senior ProJect as the Perfect Location to create a LiBrary/community center.
my concePt Was to Bring the energy of the festivaL anD the cuLturaL antiquities into the BuiLDing.

my Design ProBLem Was to Design a Patient fLoor anD aLL of the grounD fLoor For a Children’s hospital. the patient fLoor consists of 24 Patient rooms, 4 care team stations anD other sPace to accommoDate the staff anD Patients anD famiLy memBers. WhiLe the grounD fLoor contains security, Waiting, inDoor PLay area, sPeciaL events, a coffee anD gift shoP, famiLy resource center, meDitation sPace anD conference faciLities.
after a significant amount of research, i Descover that Patients tenD to recover faster if they are exPose more to nature. as a resuLt, my Design soLution Was to introDuce naturaL Light, various forms of tree anD coLors of the 4 seasons into the BuiLDing. the iDea Was to Be surrounDeD By a naturaL environment.

the cooL atmosPhere LocateD on the first fLoor gave customers a Breeze moment Before sinking DoWnstairs to the hot anD virBrant Dance fLoor.
a giant rock-Like meteror Was structureD 16 feet high to shoot Beams of Light aBove the Dance fLoor.
